Audi R8 LMS Ultra claims overall victory at Nürburgring 24 Hours

Audi has claimed its first overall victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hour race with the R8 LMS Ultra finishing in both first and second place. The win comes after a slew of endurance race wins for Audi in the last 12 months including the Bathurst 12 Hour and the 24 hour races at Spa and Zolder. The winning Phoenix Racing R8 LMS Ultra, driven by a German quartet of Marc Basseng, Christopher Haase, Frank Stippler and Markus Winkelhock, managed to complete 155 laps of the Green Hell free of technical issues or crashes, and finished over three and a half minutes ahead of the second place R8 run by Abt.

China approves Google's Motorola buy, demands Android remain open

. The United States Department of Justice approved Google's $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility this past February, but the massive deal awaited the blessing of one more major regulatory body before it could go through. This past weekend, China's Ministry of Commerce followed the DOJ's lead and granted Google permission to acquire the struggling vendor. China's MOC did have a condition Google must honor if it moves forward with the deal, however: Android must remain open-source and freely available.

The Samsung Galaxy Note - which has recently received an official updated to Android 4.0 ICS (at lest in some markets) - now has a new edition: the Galaxy Note Olympic Edition, made to celebrate the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Introduced in the UK, the Samsung Galaxy Note Olympic Edition will be reportedly available only via O2, alongside an Olympic version of the smaller and cheaper Galaxy Y. Motorola explains why some devices aren't receiving the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update

If you own the Motorola DROID X2 or the Motorola DROID 3, it would appear as though both of these devices will not be seeing the highly-anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. This is based on Motorola's Android 4.0 update schedule which unfortunately did not list either device (amongst others) as being eligible for the Android 4.0 update. Why is this so. Could it be that both devices are considered to be "old". Some have laid out theories that this might have something to do with the fact that both handsets only featured 512MB of RAM, but apparently this isn't the case.

Microsoft exec says Windows Phone outselling iPhone in China

Microsoft exec says Windows Phone outselling iPhone in China

Going by Microsoft's Greater China COO Michel van der Bel, the launch of Windows Phone in China is off to an auspicious start — enough to give Apple the shakes. He claims that devices like the Nokia Lumia 800c have helped Windows Phone reach seven percent of the Chinese market, or just enough to get past the six points of the iPhone. We're waiting on hard data before we take van der Bel's word: the top smartphone makers worldwide aren't depending much or at all on Windows Phone, and the iPhone has a thriving gray market in China that masks some of its real numbers.

Prototype 3D display maintains resolution, bumps viewing angles, spans dimensions

If 3D has a future in our pockets, then it must be one that requires no spectacles. Not only are the goggles an issue, other key factors like resolution and viewing angles all need to be bettered before it stands a chance of broad adoption. NLT technology knows this, and has prototyped a 3.1-inch 3D LCD display that not only matches 2D resolution but also offers up to six viewing angles. The display is based on existing horizontal double-density pixel technology with “HxDP” (horizontally x times-density pixels,) a new technology for creating multiple viewpoints, thrown into the mix.
