Apple Denies Being Monopolist in Downloading via App Store

Apple Denies Being Monopolist in Downloading via App Store

Apple is on trial not because of patent-related battles, but on accusations of violating antitrust laws as it only allow iPhone users to download apps through its App Store. The company's lawyers argued that Apple does not violate such laws, citing how it does not set the prices for apps or in-app purchases as well as charging a 30-percent fee for using its app platform. The prosecution and the critics, however, countered that iPhone users only have one option when purchasing apps for their smartphone, thus concludes Apple being a monopolist.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment. Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada.

San-X - Rirakkuma bear earthquake kit - Cute stuffed bear stuffed with survival gear for kids in Japan

The 2nd anniversary of the catastrophic “Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami” that hit northern Japan is approaching (March 11). And I'd like to write about Earthquake kits which are very important in Japan, where massive earthquakes can hit at any time. When they do, like 2 years ago, there can be a loss of electricity, shortages of basic necessities such as clean water, exposure to the elements, etc. A fun and convenient way for your kids to remember to grab their emergency earthquake kits is to make them out of a cute stuffed animal or toy.

TiVo Mini Extends Set-Top-Box To Additional Rooms For $99

TiVo Mini Extends Set-Top-Box To Additional Rooms For $99

If you take your DVR serious, you may have sprung for a TiVo instead of trusting your TV-watching needs to your cable or satellite provider. Up until this point, if you wanted additional TiVos in your home, you had to purchase additional units, which could be quite costly, especially if it's a room you only occasionally watch TV on. TiVo is announcing a new accessory to its main set-top-box that will make those infrequently used rooms less costly to have a TiVo in.

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: 'Luxury, power, refinement, handling'

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: 'Luxury, power, refinement, handling'

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people – fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts. First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission.

Five vehicles named Top Safety Pick+ including new Civic, MKZ

In an attempt to help push vehicle safety to a higher level, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety created a stricter Top Safety Pick+ rating last year, which incorporates a brutal small overlap test and requires cars to get Good ratings in four out of the five categories (and no less than Acceptable in the fifth). Joining the list of the safest cars of 2013, the 2013 Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKZ, Honda Civic (sedan and coupe) and the 2014 Mazda6 have all received the coveted TSP+ rating. The Mazda6 and Lincoln MKZ have both been completely redesigned, and both received Acceptable ratings in the small overlap test.
