Toshiba reveals 2.5″ HDD with 1 TB capacity

Tuesday Toshiba said that it will begin mass production of its new MQ01ABD 2.5-inch HDD starting the middle of August. This new line will feature the company's 500 GB/platter technology using an “industry-leading” areal density of 744 Gb/in2, thus increasing the quantity of data stored per square inch by over 37-percent compared to prior 2.5-inch models. For consumers, this means drive capacities up to 1 TB. “The creation of rich content by consumers and businesses continues to push the demand for storage capacity,” said Joel Hagberg, vice president of product marketing, Storage Device Division of TAIS.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia PLAY get software update

Sony Ericsson is pushing out an update for the Xperia Arc and the Xperia PLAY. It's a minor update, the Android version is still 2.3.3, but it brings a few useful changes like stereo sound in videos, landscape mode in the homescreen and a few others. The homescreens of the Xperia Arc and the Xperia PLAY will both work in landscape mode after the update and there's a selection of new themes available as well. The other big change is the sound in videos - both switch from mono to stereo sound (other parameters of the videos are unchanged).

Next up is DLNA support so you can play media from DLNA-enabled devices.

Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tab 10.1 Tablet In Germany

Samsung of Germany recently confirmed that they will launch the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany by the end of August, where the device will be priced at 629 Euros or about US$892 after conversion. The tablet will runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb and will be available in soft black and pure white color.

Samsung: Galaxy Tab 10.1 Still Planned for Australia

After initially agreeing to halt sales of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, Samsung has released a statement saying, in essence, the show will go on. “The Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the Australian Market will be released in the near future,” says the statement, adding that the version of the tablet planned for sale in Australia differs from the one Apple is suing the manufacturer over.

Skype for iPad Launched, Immediately Pulled

Skype for iPad. I'll bet these people are hotter than your own Skype contacts. Skype made a premature launch of its iPad-native VoIP app last night, and quickly removed it from the App Store, claiming it was pulled “To ensure your best Skype experience.” That didn't stop the lucky few who downloaded it from posting lots and lots of screenshots to the Internet, or grabbing the official promo shots (seen above).
The iPhone version of Skype already works just fine on the iPad in pixel-doubled mode.
