Skype for iPad promo videos leaked on Youtube, confirmed by Skype Exec.

Although the iPad 2 has been out since March, we have yet to see a Skype app specifically optimized for Apple's tablet. Current users have been able to use the Skype app for the iPhone 4, but it is not made for that specific screen size. A promo video of Skype for the iPad 2 was leaked this morning on Youtube, but was quickly pulled after the company realized they had made a mistake. TUAW had a few words with Skype VP of Consumer and Product Design Rick Osterloh about the Skype app for the iPad 2.

Volkswagen develops Temporary Auto Pilot system

Volkswagen develops Temporary Auto Pilot system

It looks like the days of steering wheel-controlled cars are coming to an end. Volkswagen has managed to develop a temporary autopilot system that brings us one step closer to having cars that don't need drivers to move. Developed together with the HAVEit (Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transportation), the autopilot system allows cars to drive on their own when engaged. Called the Temporary Auto Pilot system, it works by combining a number of passive safety features that area already found in vehicles such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

The Sauer Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine is the Energy of the Future

The Sauer Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine is the Energy of the Future

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sauer Energy for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. The cost of all forms of energy we use daily is going up. The continually rising price of gasoline seems to be driving up the cost of everything we use. The energy we need to heat, cool, and power our homes is no exception to rising prices, and we all are feeling the pinch.

Microsoft details the new Games Hub for Windows Phone Mango

Microsoft details the new Games Hub for Windows Phone Mango

Still not clear on what your gaming options will be like with Windows Phone Mango. Then Microsoft's now got you covered with a fairly extensive overview of its new Games Hub, which has actually been tweaked a bit further from earlier previews it's offered. One of the biggest changes is that the Hub now includes features previously relegated to the separate Xbox Live Extras app, including improved Xbox Live messaging, integrated achievements (complete with comparison views with your friends), and the ability to edit your Xbox Live profile — not to mention fully animated 3D avatars.

How Nokia was disrupted. Part 2

How Nokia was disrupted. Part 2

In this two part article I look and try to understand what happened to Nokia over the past 4 years and what's next for the company. In short - what happened was pretty simple. Nokia was disrupted by the new model of true mobile computing invented by Apple and then accelerated by Google's Android.
In the first part of this post I  looked at how disruption in general works, and how the disruption of Nokia started. The second part looks at how Nokia tried to fight back, lost and surrendered. And what may happen to Nokia next.

Nokia's response to the new disruptive true mobile computing threat - was a classic incumbent.

2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Practice Day 2 brings fresh pavement and fast times

2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Practice Day 2 brings fresh pavement and fast times

Early this morning (out the door at 3:00 am) we headed to Pikes Peak for the second of three practice sessions this week before race day on Sunday. Our final destination was the summit, where the Unlimited Class would be tackling the final third of the course. The past couple years more and more of the road has been paved, and for this year the final section has been completely paved over. The fresh tarmac should knock a few seconds off each car's overall time, increasing the chances that 2011 might be the year that the overall course record will be broken.

Kyocera plants Green Curtains

Kyocera plants Green Curtains

Going green seems to be the mantra that many companies and individuals alike take these days – after all, it ain't too cool to be zipping about town in a gas guzzling Hummer, but a Prius is where the action's at. As for buildings, what are the other methods that you can employ in keeping with the overall green theme. Kyocera decided not to outfit their building with solar panels that has been embedded into windows, but rather, take the literal green route by planting Green Curtains.

Aston Martin V12 Zagato returns for ultimate showdown at the Nürburgring (video)

Aston Martin V12 Zagato returns for ultimate showdown at the Nürburgring (video)

Sure, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato may have won top honors upon its unveiling at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. But it's not just a pretty face. Aston Martin is keen to highlight that point, taking the V12 Zagato straight from the shores of Lake Como to the tarmac of the Nürburgring. The racing version of the show car has already had two outings on the Ring in the past month or so, but those campaigns were merely in preparation for what's in store this weekend, when a pair of Zagatos – dubbed "Zig" and "Zag" – will take on the grueling ADAC Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Mobile Devices Surpass PCs In WiFi Usage

Mobile Devices Surpass PCs In WiFi Usage

Would you be surprised if you found out that more people use their phones for WiFi access rather than their PCs. If you're not I can't blame you because frankly speaking, nowadays everyone's smartphone can do most of the basic functions of a computer, for example edit documents, check/reply/send emails, instant message, upload photos, check on social networking sites, browse the web, etc, so unless you're looking to run some Crysis 2 your phone pretty much does what you can do on the PC.

Sony Ericsson Teases Xperia Ray and Xperia Active Smartphones

Sony Ericsson Teases Xperia Ray and Xperia Active Smartphones

It seems that Sony Ericsson will be dishing out two new Xperia smartphones. Not much is known about the Xperia Ray (pictured) and Xperia Active, except that both will be Android-powered. Sources claim that the Ray could be running with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, while it is hard to tell what version of the OS is on Active. The Xperia Ray will have a bronze-ish back panel and is just 9.4mm thick. The smartphone will come with Sony's Bravia Engine technology, which would enhance the resolution of the screen. It can also shoot HD video from its rear-facing camera and it also has a front-facing cam as well.

How Bad Could It Be? The $100 Arnova 7 Tablet

How Bad Could It Be? The $100 Arnova 7 Tablet

Make sure your parents don't mistake this for an iPad at Christmas. You know how the only non-iPod MP3 players that people buy are those $10 pieces of junk in dime stores, or by the checkout in cheap supermarkets. I have a feeling that the tablet market is going the same way.
With all the major players struggling to match the iPad's aggressively low price, it may be left to junk like the $100 Arnova 7, a seven-inch tablet packed with all the latest tech — if we were living in 2005.

The tablet runs Android 2.2 Froyo, has a whopping 4GB storage, a mystery-meat processor, and an 800×480 pixel screen.

It's been a long wait for the successor of the N900, and finally the N950 is here. Nerdy derps rejoice. Despite years of leaks and an inestimable amount of visions tip-toeing around in our brains, we never could nail down a solid image of the thing. Until today that is. Engadget has spotted a hidden Area 51 within Nokia that contains all those PR photos of the N950.

Alien Dalvik will let you run Android apps on the Nokia N9

In case you were worried about application support for the N9, you have one less reason to worry now. Along with applications created specifically for the phone, you will even be able to run Android applications on it. Thanks to a little something called the Alien Dalvik, a software that lets you run unmodified Android application on non-Android devices. All the developers have to do is repackage the .apk files and the applications can be used on other devices running Alien Dalvik.
