Apple executive reportedly denies that the “iTV” will be launching in the near future

There have been plenty of Apple's HDTV rumors floating about these days, with some suggesting that we will only see a release next year, while some optimistically believe it could be released sometime towards the end of 2012. In any case according to reports, Apple's Vice President for internet services and software, Eddy Cue, had reportedly told an analyst that such a device from Apple is unlikely in the near future, with the main reason being that such a TV set would have to meet all of Apple's standards regarding user experience and performance first.

Shared data plans may not be so bad: Average smartphone owners use less than 2GB of data

. There has been a lot of fuss going around about Verizon (VZ) and AT&T's (T) new shared data plans. While the nation's two largest carriers claim the plans will save consumers money, Sprint (S) and T-Mobile have both spoken out in opposition of shared data, as have a number of disgruntled customers. Shared data plans may not be all bad for the average smartphone owner, however. According to a study from NPD Group, the majority of smartphone subscribers on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile use less than 2GB of data per month.

A Japanese site called Digicam Info has leaked pics of a previously unknown Fujifilm mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, the X-E1. The natty looking snapper bears a strong family resemblance to the X-Pro1 model, but looks to be flaunting a pop-up flash, and lacks the optical viewfinder of the flagship model. The sneaked pics show black and silver-topped models, as well as a previously announced lens, the 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 IOS zoom that has yet to hit the market.

Opel cutting work hours in two plants to avoid layoffs

Trying to make the best of a nasty situation for everyone involved, Opel has reportedly worked out an agreement with its Works Council and the IG Metall union to reduce working hours at two of its plants. From the end of September until the end of the year, there will be 20 days of short shifts and short working days for two Opel facilities: the Rüsselsheim factory that builds the Insignia and Astra and the Kaiserslautern component plant. About half of the 13,800 Rüsselsheim employees will be affected, including everyone but engineers, along with all 2,500 workers at Kaiserslautern.

Kodak to sell the film business that made it so famous

Kodak is selling off its renowned film arm in order to revive its moribund fortunes. It'll join sales of the company's patent portfolio, online gallery, commercial scanning, photo kiosk and theme park businesses so it can concentrate on a not-yet successful printer enterprise. It needs to raise more than $660 million to pay back creditors before it can emerge from Chapter 11, which it aims to do early next year - but not in any form that we're likely to recognize.

iPad mini to be announced separately from iPhone 5?

Originally, many pundits were thinking that come this September 12th, we could very well be looking at a double whammy of announcements from the fruity company itself, and the two heavy hitters would be the alleged iPad mini and the iPhone 5. Well, it seems that there are other viewpoints to this matter, with some parties suggesting that later in the Fall, Apple would hold a second event to introduce the iPad mini in addition to whatever else hardware that they have (like a new iPod, perhaps?) planned for the upcoming holidays.

Bloomberg reports that the nation's largest carrier is making a move towards the operating system in an attempt “to lessen its dependence on Apple's iPhone and devices running Google's Android software.” Verizon released its first and only Windows Phone, the HTC Trophy, in May 2011 but the device failed to win over consumers. The company's chief financial officer, Fran Shammo, previously revealed that the carrier was planning to make a big Windows Phone push ahead of the holiday season.

Google grabs glove-based input patent, could spell out gesture control

Google might have already patented some nifty eye-tracking controls, but that doesn't mean it isn't considering other sensory input. A recently granted patent hints at a potential glove-based controller, with references to a pair of detectors that record “images” of an environment, and then determine gestures based on the calculated movement between them. The illustrations go on to show a hand drawing out the letter J, indicating it could be used for text input, while another suggests recognition of pinch-to-zoom style gestures.

Toyota shocks ad world with topless androgynous model

This one will take some puzzling. Toyota has released an ad for the company's brand-new 2013 Auris hatchback, complete with a topless model. It's not what you think, however. The agency behind the spot contracted Stav Strashko, a 19-year-old male model born in the Ukraine and raised in Israel for the role. Strashko has a distinctly androgynous appearance and has modeled women's clothing in the past.

Australian Deal of the Day – Samsung Galaxy 5 $49.50

Another fair dinkum Aussie deal. Need a cheap and cheery smartphone but missed out on the cheap LG Optimus Spirit. Woolworths has the Telstra pre-paid Samsung Galaxy 5 currently on sale for 1x2 price at $49.50. With a 600 MHz processor running Android 2.1 (Eclair), a 240 x 320 pixels, 2.8 inches screen and an included 2GB microSD, it's not going to match the latest and greatest dual or quad core phones, but then it's a heck of a lot cheaper. Pretty good value for a smartphone as a backup, as a dedicated MP3/GPS device or a cheap solution for the kids or oldies.

Now it seems that the company is back with a new phone dubbed the Oppo Find5 X909. While it has not been officially announced yet, photos of the handset have surfaced along with some of its purported specs. While it will not be able to claim to be the thinnest Android smartphone like its sibling, it still measures at a purported 6.9mm thick, which we have to admit is still pretty darn impressive.

The machine you see above is the McLaren X-1 Concept, and it was created by McLaren Special Operations for an anonymous client. Underneath that crazy slice of bodywork lies the British company's unique carbon monocell - the same basic structure that underpins the MP4-12C. MSO Programme Director Paul MacKenzie describes how it came to be:.     “One of our clients who already owned a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and now a 12C, wanted a unique car. The conversation began with our Executive Chairman Ron Dennis almost three years ago - before the 12C was even launched.

BBC facing penalties for hosting Top Gear videos on YouTube

If a corporate content provider in the U.S. wants to upload videos to YouTube, all it essentially needs to do is find someone who knows how to upload videos to YouTube. Then: profit. In the UK, it's done differently – so much so that it sounds like everyone is confused. A regulatory body called The Authority for Television on Demand (ATVOD) oversees on-demand services, including content posted online on branded aggregator sites like Virgin Media as well as open sites like YouTube.

It's the ultimate childhood icon of the '80s built with the ultimate childhood toy of the '80s: a Lamborghini Countach fashioned from Lego blocks. One German member of Eurobricks.com created exactly that as he designed and built his very own Lego Lambo. According to the Lego-centric forum, Georg (aka Polo-Freak) started with a 1:18 scale model of the Countach and used a computer program to begin mapping out the construction of Lego Lamborghini starting in 2007.

US DOJ and FBI shutdown three Android app piracy domains

Apps, much like computer software, can be pirated and this is one of the reasons why some smartphone owners jailbreak their phones or turn to third-party app websites for their downloads, instead of accessing the official ones. Apart from the possibility of getting infected by malware through pirated apps and third-party websites, downloading pirated apps is also considered illegal (in case it wasn't obvious already) and it seems that the US Department of Justice along with the FBI have shut down three domains that have been associated with the distribution and pirating of Android apps.
