Dodge Durango to stay classy with Ron Burgundy as spokesperson (video)

Dodge Durango to stay classy with Ron Burgundy as spokesperson (video)

The upcoming 2014 Dodge Durango has a lot of things going for it, including its 290-horsepower V6 and 360-hp Hemi V8 engine options, an eight-speed automatic and aggressive looks. And now it will have Ron Burgundy, the fictional television news anchor played by comedian Will Ferrell, as a spokesperson, Adweek reports. He follows in the footsteps of other non-fictional Chrysler brand spokespeople such as Eminem, Clint Eastwood and the late Paul Harvey. Though the star of 2004's Anchorman and the upcoming Anchorman 2 is wildly popular, we're not sure we see a Dodge spokesperson in Burgundy.

2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition

Who is John Varvatos. If you're like me, that's the question you were asking after seeing commercials that advertised a limited-edition model of the Chrysler 300 with this mystery man's name attached. If you're not like me and consider yourself a fashionista even in the slightest, then you probably already know that John Varvatos is a successful menswear designer who cut his teeth in the fashion houses of Ralph Lauren's Polo and Calvin Klein.

British team attempting 10K-mile, 10-day drive in Land Rover

It may sound like a Top Gear challenge, but it isn't - a pair of Brits will attempt to drive from London to Cape Town, a distance of 10,000 miles, in under 10 days. The two-man team, consisting of endurance rally drivers Robert Belcher and Stephen Cooper will leave Blighty early on Friday, October 4 and cross 13 countries by Monday, October 14. Their steed for this feat. A 2005 Land Rover LR3, considered by some to be one of the most unreliable models in Land Rover's long and distinguished history of unreliable models. To account for and minimize the inevitable breakdowns, the LR3 has received a few modifications.

Android in September 2013: 4.3 adoption going faster than 4.2

Android in September 2013: 4.3 adoption going faster than 4.2

Google detailed the state of Android OS versions in September and it's business as usual – Jelly Bean is gaining slowly, while pre-4.1 versions decline. Pre-2.1 versions account for about 1% of devices, but they are too old for the new Play Store app and are not included in the charts. With that it's only 2.2 Froyo that remains of Android's archaic past at 2.2%. Android 2.3 Gingerbread still powers around a third of all Android phones with 28.5%, having fallen a couple of percentage points since August.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Has A "Tiny Screen" Mode For One-Handed Use

There are some who love the big display that comes with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but at the same time admit that while the huge screen is great for surfing, watching videos, and playing games, using it with one hand might pose a challenge. Interestingly enough Samsung has actually thought of that and has even come up with a solution that has been hidden deep within the Settings menu, meaning that it is an option that isn't very obvious or accessible to those who aren't willing to look for it.

Ferrari 250 GTO may have set new sale record at $52M

Records are made to be broken, and it seems that one may have just been snapped again. An Italian website is reporting that a Ferrari 250 GTO, owned by American collector Paul Pappalardo, recently sold for $52 million. Now, this is far from confirmed - Pappalardo responded to questions about the sale saying, "I do not confirm these things, I have no comment about!" - and if it's a private sale, it's unlikely that we'll ever know the exact amount of the transaction.

gdgt's best deals for October 2nd: Apple iPhone 5c, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

gdgt's best deals for October 2nd: Apple iPhone 5c, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Price: $80 with two-year AT&T or Verizon contract (regularly $100). In-store only. Buy: Target.
Apple's midrange smartphone basically takes the guts of the newly-discontinued iPhone 5 and wraps them in a polycarbonate plastic shell. It may lack the upgraded processor of the iPhone 5s, but the 5c is still tasty enough to earn a 95 gdgt Score. It's not all old news on the inside however, the 5c does sport a bigger battery and better front-facing camera than its ancestor.

Price:

Samsung's Galaxy-branded tablet doesn't induce the same squeals of delight as its smartphone line, but the Note 10.1 is still a solid performer.

$1.35M buys a Mercedes G63 6x6 that's bulletproof [UPDATE]

$1.35M buys a Mercedes G63 6x6 that's bulletproof [UPDATE]

Unstoppable. That's what comes to mind when images of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 cross our screen, as it's usually annihilating some barren stretch of desert. In reality, though, the über-G-Wagen isn't all that unstoppable - it may have six-wheel drive, but it's a car, more or less like any other. That's why Texas Armoring has essentially made the monstrous Mercedes impervious to bullets, up to the kind of rounds one would find in an AK-47, M16 or other military-derived boom-boom stick. Yes, a trip to Texas Armoring will stop a 7.62x63-millimeter (also known as a .30-06 Springfield) bullet in its tracks.

HAPIfork Now Available For Pre-Order

HAPIfork Now Available For Pre-Order

Earlier this year during CES 2013, Hapilabs debuted an eating utensil dubbed the HAPIfork, which is essentially a smart fork that records how you eat, how fast you eat, and how long it takes for you to finish a meal. It is common knowledge that eating too fast is an issue that can lead to poor digestion and poor weight control, and the HAPIfork is hoping to change that by alerting the user when they are eating too fast. In any case the device is now up for pre-order and will be available via Brookstone's website for $99. The fork is expected to begin shipping come 19th of October and will be available in five different colors.

VW Beetle R is one mean bug

VW Beetle R is one mean bug

Volkswagen's R lineup currently consists of the Golf R in North America, and the too-cool-for-school Scirocco R in Europe. It hasn't exactly been a secret as to which VW would next get the R treatment; the German manufacturer reportedly confirmed that a hotter Beetle would be coming to the US. That announcement, in August 2011, was followed up by a production-ready Beetle R Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. After some wait, we're finally seeing spy shots of the Beetle R in Germany.

Straight Talk finally comes clean, admits to 2.5GB of high-speed data before throttling

TracFone — and its sub brands Straight Talk and Net10 — have been known for being notoriously tight lipped about the amount of data they offer customers before being throttled. You couldn't find even a smidgen of information on Straight Talk's website, not even in the fine print. Customers were forced to provide only their own personal experiences. Searching through various forums online, you'll find all kinds of numbers being thrown around in regard to data usage and how much was consumed before being fed 2G speeds, or worse yet, kicked off the service entirely.

Bailout dealership cuts did their job as profits surge

Bailout dealership cuts did their job as profits surge

Almost five years after US taxpayers bailed out General Motors and Chrysler, a large majority of their slimmed-down dealership networks are posting soaring profits, Bloomberg reports, and contributing to the US auto industry on track this year to deliver 15.4 million vehicles, the most since 16.15 million were delivered in 2007. Consider another important figure: Bloomberg says that more than 90 percent of GM dealerships are profitable, compared to about half of them in 2008 and 2009. At the start of 2013, GM had 4,355 US dealerships and Chrysler had about 2,600.

Nexus 5 pictured in the wild (again)

Nexus 5 pictured in the wild (again)

We've been seeing the Nexus 5 pop up all over the place. First it was the FCC, then in an official Google video, later at a bar — this is one Google phone that definitely gets around. Today the device is popping up in another unlikely place, on the Apple-centric MacRumors forum. Forum member weespeed was the lucky fella who got to spend a little time with the device. While he doesn't reveal much, he was able to shoot off a quick pick of the back of the device (covered by what appears to a Moto X to hide the FCC labeling).

Mercedes A45 AMG in downhill battle with slipstream skateboarder

Mercedes A45 AMG in downhill battle with slipstream skateboarder

We're told it takes "performance, control and expression" to pilot a longboard skateboard down a mountain road, and that those happen to be the same values embodied in the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG. That's how the two came to be combined in a black-and-white short film called Silver Slipstream. There's no talking, no engine note and no color, just some music, a 'boarder and a car on a long cruise down the Franschhoek Pass in the Western Cape of South Africa." Despite that, it's actually a pretty entertaining video of the latest Mercedes-Benz hot hatch married with extreme sports.

Sony Xperia Z1 Mini leaked in official docs as "Xperia Z1 f" - Snapdragon 800, 20.7MP camera confirmed

Back during IFA 2013, Sony pulled back the veil on their upcoming flagship, the Sony Xperia Z1. The device packed many of the high-end specs you'd expect from a flagship — Snapdragon 800 processor, 20MP camera, 3,000mAh battery — and true to most Androids these days, a large 5-inch, 1080p full HD display. While some would have you believe that bigger is always better, we like to think there is still very much a market for smaller, more pocketable smartphones.
