Head-up display sales heading... up

Head-up display (HUD), a technology borrowed from the aerospace industry and first introduced by General Motors to the automotive sector in 1988, seems to be grabbing a stronger foothold among consumers, reports The Detroit News. While only about two percent of vehicles were equipped with the technology last year, new estimates show that nine percent of new cars will be fitted with HUD by 2020. In automotive use, HUD is used to project relevant information directly within the driver's forward view, thus allowing them to keep their eyes on the road.

Cowon iAUDIO 9+ Portable Media Player

Cowon iAUDIO 9+ Portable Media Player

Do you realize something. Just about everyone and their dog owned an MP3 player back in the day, and if you were better off financially, you would have been in the possession of a portable media player (PMP) instead. Yes sir, forget about just having music to enjoy, when you can always indulge in full length movies. Well, it seems that Cowon did not get the notice that PMPs and their ilk are phased out in this day and age thanks to the advent of smartphones that could do all that a PMP can, and more, as Cowon has just introduced the Cowon iAUDIO 9+.

Developers Tweak App To Help Boyfriend Propose

We're sure developers get tons of emails every day from their users who might either wish to leave feedback, provide some ideas, or complain about a bug, and with the barrage of emails some developers get, it is understandable that not every email can be attended to, or every request entertained. However Duolingo has decided to make an exception for one of their users, especially since it was a romantic gesture that we're sure any of us would be proud to be a part of.

Anchorman Gets 8-Bit Treatment

Anchorman Gets 8-Bit Treatment

I guess in this 8-bit creation, you could more or less say that Ron Burgundy remains in a glass case of emotion, but this time around, it would be full of pixels. Is it just me, or is retro making a comeback at this point in time. I know that video games have long moved on to the world of High Definition for quite some time now, and so too, are the movies that we watch in the cinemas that arrive in Full HD, but there is just something appealing about all the pixels which float around, don't you think so.

Nokia Lumia 1020 To Retail For $602 (Rumor)

A rose, by any other name, would smell just as sweet. Does the same kind of thinking apply to the world of smartphones. Who knows. There has been plenty of speculation going around concerning Nokia's upcoming flagship device, where some have called it the Nokia 1020 (which apparently will be headed for AT&T), while others claim that it is the Nokia 909, which is the new moniker of the EOS smartphone, while there were also whispers of a Nokia 909 "Elvis".

Amazon Japan Employs Goats

Amazon Japan Employs Goats

We often see major companies coming up with unique ideas. Some of these ideas are implemented in their offices all around the world. Reports coming in from Japan reveal that Amazon has actually, for lack of a better word, hired goats. The goats reportedly come to Amazon Japan's Gifu Perfecture distribution center to mow the lawn and eradicate weeds from it, guess how they do that. They use their natural herbivorous instincts to eat all of it.
Environmental agencies keep a stern eye on big global countries to ensure that their actions do no harm the environment.

Legendary Pictures Hopes They Don't Screw Up World Of Warcraft Movie

We're sure that there are tons of gamers out there who can't wait to see the upcoming World of Warcraft movie which at this point in time, will be made by Legendary Pictures. Video games which have been translated into movies have never really fared well in the past, so naturally many are skeptical that the World of Warcraft movie will be no different, although Legendary Pictures is hoping to change that. Speaking at a press event for the Pacific Rim movie, Legendary Pictures' head, Thomas Tull, was asked about the progress with the movie in which he hinted at a possible completion in 2016 which is still years away.

Explore Thomas Jefferson's Monticello House With Google Maps Street View

One doesn't normally get the chance to wander around a current or former president's house, much less that of one of the founding fathers of the U.S.A. Thanks to technology though, a lot that people deemed to be impossible is now very much possible. Google Maps Street View now allows you to explore Thomas Jefferson's Monticello House. For those who missed their history class, Thomas Jefferson was the third president of this country as well as one of the founding fathers.
His Monticello residence can now be virtually explored through Google Maps Street View.

Motorola rides Independence Day wave as patriotic sign-up page for Moto X launches

Yesterday, we got our first taste of Motorola's initial marketing approach for the Motorola Moto X, the first phone they've constructed with heavy influence from Google. The company touted the fact that it is being assembled entirely in the United States, a detail that should make any job seeker happy. Well, things are continuing today as the company has finally made a “coming soon” sign-up page for the device. Before submitting your email address, Motorola goes on its spiel about its manufacturing efforts to keep job in its home country, quite the perfect angle considering tomorrow is America's day of independence.

The future of Falcon Pro, and where users can get updates from now on

It's been just a little while since esteemed Falcon Pro developer Joaquim Verges took his application off the market due to Twitter stopping him from resetting the tokens on his app every time he reached 100,000 users. He immediately provided a download for a previous version of the app for paying members who found themselves locked out after the reset, and mentioned he'd be going back to the drawing board to see what he can do to circumvent this unfortunate circumstance. Unfortunately, he was unable to come up with an acceptable compromise for users who paid for the app, and things have pretty much been at a standstill.

Is Samsung going to name its smart watch the "GEAR" ? [TRADEMARKS]

We've been doing a bit of trademark snooping recently, and came up one one very interesting character mark by the big, bad Samsung. It's being called the “Samsung GEAR,” and while the primary description suggests the name could apply to literally everything under the sun, the secondary one specifically focuses on watches, clocks, wristbands, bracelets and the like which can communicate with phones, PCs and tablets using the internet and other communication methods. It's a fitting name, when you think about it — analog clocks and watches use small gears to turn the various hands.

Watch the Pikes Peak record fall from Sebastien Loeb's point of view

It's easy to gloss over the new Pikes Peak hill climb record as just another number. After all, we can say Sebastien Loeb did the deed a full minute and a half quicker than anyone else in the history of the race, but the words fail to convey the lunacy and sheer speed of the feat, even bearing in mind that the mountain is now fully paved. To fully grasp the weight of the new record, you have experience the ride from Loeb's point of view. Fortunately for us, Red Bull has been kind enough to release a new video of the record-setting 8:13.878 run shot entirely in-car.

GlassTesla Lets You Drive Your Tesla With Google Glass

The Google Glass project has certainly experienced its fair share of developments recently, but there is still more to come – it seems that Google Glass and Tesla electric cars have a common bind in the form of the GlassTesla app, where users are able to control their Tesla Model S using their Google Glass device, now how cool is that. The GlassTesla is capable of locating a missing Tesla Model S on Google Maps, making you feel like some sort of superspy on a mission, or you can also inform Google Glass to activate the horn and flash the lights in your quest to locate your ride in the middle of a mammoth parking lot.

Ubisoft is no stranger to having its services compromised as not only was the company's controversial DRM hacked a few years ago, but its uPlay service was also the victim of hacking that gave unlimited access to all of its PC games. Ubisoft's hacking problems have now turned to something its customers should be concerned about as the company has announced one of its websites have been hacked. Ubisoft sent out a letter a moment ago vaguely detailing the hack, saying usernames, email addresses and passwords have been compromised.

Facebook is reportedly pondering over the idea of becoming a mobile game publisher, it is said to be in talks with various game developers on a deal that would publish their games under Facebook's brand. The social network will generate revenue from these games through its ad platform, developers will apparently also be given a cut of revenue generated through ads. TechCrunch reports that Facebook has confirmed it is working on tests for distribution of mobile games, without revealing any more details. Facebook is said to be working only with small developers and its focus is said to primarily be on distribution of the titles.

Barware for the chemistry majors

Although I haven't used it in years, I have a degree in chemistry.  I've always loved laboratory glassware, but I've never found practical applications for a lot of the flasks and beakers I'd love to own.  ThinkGeek has a set of four shot-sized glasses that appeals to my love of the lab.  Their Laboratory Shot Glasses hold one ounce and are designed to look like the lab glassware I love.  The set has two beakers (center), one Erlenmeyer flask (right), and one Florence flask (left).  Each also has a “mixing pipette”, which looks like disposable plastic droppers to me.  A set is $19.99.

New Droid Ultra confirmed by Motorola's website

New Droid Ultra confirmed by Motorola's website

Motorola's official US website now has a page that lists a smartphone called Droid Ultra. This, of course, has to be one of the Ultra handsets that we've heard about last week. There's no mention of the Razr branding on the page, so that may have been left out. The complete list of specs currently shown at the Droid Ultra page is exactly the one for the older Razr M - so it's probably there just as a placeholder.

Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Custom ROMs Headed For Sprint And Verizon

The first spotting of Google Play Edition Android smartphones happened last week (which caught your attention more, that or the supermoon in the sky?), and it was not too long after those handsets were announced, that the Android community already begun attempts to port the respective operating systems over to current handsets, in particular, the non-Google Play Edition models. Most of the attention by the community seemed to be concentrated on the Galaxy S4 models, where the efforts appeared to have worked on the international Galaxy S4 model – you know, the LTE-enabled version that comes with a Snapdragon chipset.

Cyber AJ Has A Battery Operated Brain

Cyber AJ Has A Battery Operated Brain

Ever wanted to be a cyborg. Of course, I am quite sure that most of us would loathe being a Borg of Star Trek fame, as we would much rather prefer to take the route of someone like Data, or perhaps, Robocop (without being dead in the case of the latter, of course). Cyber AJ is one such man who can be deemed to be a modern day cyborg, as he happens to be in possession of a battery operated brain.

Jay Leno sees how the other half lives with CHP cop cars new and old

Comedian Jay Leno is changing gears from driving fast cars to checking out some of the police cruisers that regularly chase down and dish out punishment to those fast cars. In this episode of Jay Leno's Garage, we get the lowdown on the modifications made to the Ford Explorer for the Interceptor package (which looks pretty tough in its California Highway Patrol livery). The new Ford is cool, but cooler still are the pack of classic CHP cars that Jay has along for the episode. A 1982 Mustang, 1966 Dodge Polara, 1970 Mercury Monterey and 2000 Crown Victoria are all in the shop.

Verizon HTC One Picture Comes Up

Verizon HTC One Picture Comes Up

After weeks of rumors, the Verizon HTC One was finally confirmed last month. The carrier didn't exactly say when it would be launching the device, it only said that HTC One on Verizon will become available “later this summer.” With the Big Red launching this smartphone, all major U.S. carriers will be offering the One to their customers. Today a purported picture of the Verizon HTC One has surfaced online. The device looks exactly like the regular “international version,” the one that's being offered by AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.
The picture has been posted on Twitter by @evleaks, a reliable source.

Teen's Comments In Game Could Keep Him In Jail For Up To 8 Years

During the course of online multiplayer games, there is a lot of trash talk being tossed around. For the most part a lot of it is said in jest and probably in the moment, but at the same time is there a line that we should not cross while trash talking. Well in the case of one Texas teenager, he has been spending the past few months in jail over a comment he made during a League of Legends game, which according to him and his parents was said in jest and was meant to be sarcastic. Justin Carter was playing the game when another player made a comment to him, calling him "insane".

FIREase IncinerGrate Makes Camping Easier

I clearly remember how those old Calvin & Hobbes comics depict only Calvin's dad loving the great outdoors, while the rest of the family – mom, Calvin and Hobbes, absolutely hated it, and yet going off on a family camp seems to be an annual thing for the family. Most of the time, too, the weather remains foul until it is time to pack up and leave, and Calvin's dad always has a penchant of telling Calvin that what he is going through will help "build character".

Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth Hits The FCC

It was not too long ago when we took a look at the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue, and it seems that there is yet another tablet from the folks over at Huawei, where it is known as the MediaPad 7 Youth. While the tablet has yet to hit the market, you could more or less say that it is on the way, especially when you consider how it has arrived at the FCC for folks over there to pore over it in the manner that aliens are interested in probing us humans when they land on earth. Very few details were divulged in the FCC listing, but we do know that tests have shown off the MediaPad 7 Youth to be a Wi-Fi only device.
