Infiniti announces IPL G Convertible in Monterey

Infiniti announces IPL G Convertible in Monterey

In addition to the JX Concept, Infiniti has rolled out another new model here in Monterey: the 2013 IPL G Convertible. Like its coupe sibling, the IPL (for Infiniti Performance Line) is more about handling and appearance than outright power. The 3.7-liter VQ37HR V6 benefits from the same breathing mods, delivering 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque through either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox. The body has been festooned with the same angular front and rear fascias, along with 19-inch wheels and a reworked suspension with stiffer springs at all four corners.

Microsoft offers free tools, devices, and training to webOS developers

This is a classic example of the saying that there is an opportunity in every loss. In this case, Microsoft is taking advantage of webOS's demise by offering its developer community "free phones, dev tools, and training.". As you can see above, the words come from no other but Brandon Watson - the senior director of Windows Phone 7 development in Microsoft.
This is yet another example about how serious the company is in making its Windows Phone platform a serious contender on the market for mobile devices, which is currently dominated by Google's Android OS, and Apple's own iOS.

IBM First Synaptic Chip Tries To Mimic Human Brain

IBM First Synaptic Chip Tries To Mimic Human Brain

Backed by U.S Defense funding, IBM has recently announced the world's first “synaptic” processor project: it's a chip that which mimics the human brain architecture. The company calls this an unprecedented progress in building a machine that will (try to) learn, and understand – two things that computers have not been so great at so far. In theory, the IBM chip is capable of re-wiring itself (like our brains) to adapt to certain situations or certain types of computations. At the moment, IBM has managed to perform some basic operations like solving mazes or recognizing mildly complex patterns.

GoPro releases final multi-angle edit of Monster Tajima's record Pikes Peak run

Nobuhiro Monster Tajima went to the 2011 Pikes Peak hill climb with a singular goal in mind: Run from start to finish in less than ten minutes. GoPro bet heavily on the Monster, and covered his car with a flock of logos and a gaggle of cameras. The GoPro team worked quickly to put together video of the record-breaking run, but we knew they had more up their sleeve. After all, they mounted the compact cameras all over Tajima's Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb Special, so we expected that footage to be put to good use. Our patience has been rewarded because the edits are done and the video is ready.

Energizer Travel Charger Nears Power-Density Singularity

You probably couldn't carry enough gadgets to fill all the holes in the Energizer iSurge. Energizer's iSurge travel charger offer the highest density of power outputs I have ever seen. One small block of black plastic has three regular AC outlets, two USB ports (with 2.1-amp outputs so you can charge an iPad in less than a day) and a 30-pin dock up top for your iPhone or iPod.
Round the back the prongs rotate 180-degrees to fit any socket and underneath there is a nightlight (which can hopefully be switched off). Phew.

Well it looks like the HTC Omega is getting a little more real, with it appearing in the game logs of developer Elbert Perez [@mechaghost on twitter] found reference to the HTC Omega, in game logs on his site, The Occasional Gamer. Elbert has a huge portfolio of Windows Phone, and a couple of xBox Live titles, and of course he logs usage of his games. Any site host will know the way this data is tracked, and it get's broken down into very specific things like what browser, what OS, locale etc. Well Elbert's games send back the same sort of data, and there are some surprises to be had in his phone usage log.

DROID Bionic Gets Front Page Prominence on Verizon Website, Launch Imminent

Yesterday, the DROID Bionic popped up in Best Buy guides everywhere, leading us to believe that an early September launch would still be a strong possibility after missing many hopeful August dates. Specifically, we've been hearing that it would drop September 8th, which fits in with Verizon's trend of releasing devices on Thursdays. Now, they've given the DROID Bionic its own pedestal on the front page carousel of their site letting everyone know that the phone to “rule all machines' with 4G is coming soon.

Texting and driving do not mix

Texting and driving do not mix

We all know that it is not wise to mix texting and driving together – after all, you cannot split your concentration both ways and be 100% sure that you will be able to arrive at your destination without causing any harm to people around you – as well as yourself, in an accident, that is. It seems that computer hackers are able to force select vehicles to unlock their doors, and not only that, start their engines without the need for a key – this is made possible by sending specially crafted messages to a car's anti-theft system.

When Hewlett-Packard announced in April of 2010 that it planned to acquire Palm for $1.2 billion, I sent the following email to a friend on the software team at Palm: “Congrats on the stay of execution, buddy. I give it 18 months.” Of course I was jabbing him and later went on to offer more sincere congratulations in subsequent emails, but as they say, many a word of truth is spoken in jest. Pagani Zonda R still gives us the chills

The Zonda may be old news with Pagani beginning production of its new supercar, the Huayra, but that doesn't mean that it's lost its place in our hearts. That's why when Pagani brought out a Zonda R last night to McCall's Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Center, we ogled over every square inch of the carbon fiber bodywork. No, the Zonda R might not be the most beautiful iteration of the supercar that Pagani has built over the past ten years, but it's perhaps the most visually stunning.

The folks at Amazon are making big noise regarding their video on-demand service this morning, boasting a library of over 100,000 movies or TV shows to rent or buy. Fascinating if you aren’t opposed to taking your business outside of the Android market. This wouldn’t be Android related at all if not for the belief that Amazon will be bringing a tablet sometime this holiday season and with their video on-demand service as one of many Amazon services available on the device(s). While Google’s rental service is cool and pretty good in terms of selection for how long it’s been out, Amazon clearly has them beat.

Turns out Fiat may have been a wee bit ambitious in setting a 50,000-unit goal for the first year that its diminutive 500 hatchback and convertible have been on sale in the United States. Through the month of July, Fiat had sold a total of 7,982 500s in the States in 2011. That figure includes 3,038 units sold in the month of July, but the monthly tally should continue to rise as more and more dealerships open in markets expected to snatch up the cute and spunky little hatch.

Star Wars coins will be legal tender

Star Wars coins will be legal tender

In the future, Star Wars coins can be used to purchase not an X-Wing, but rather, a drink at the bar, or anything in our world. Yes sir, Star War coins will be minted in the near future, where they will end up as legal tender on Niue, a tiny South Pacific island nation. While they are legal tender, I don't think anyone would be willing to use those over something as trifle as drinks – after all, they are made out of pure silver and come packaged in special cases which will hold a quartet of coins, while others are made of silver-plated base metal and sold in blister packs.

That's right RSS addicts, you can now peruse your feeds in full two-pane glory on your Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 or other comparable slate. The move to version 1.0.1 doesn't just benefit tablet owners either - the small screen UI has received a fresh coat of paint that's a tad more polished.
