2014 Fiat Ottimo is an Italian Dodge Dart hatchback in China

2014 Fiat Ottimo is an Italian Dodge Dart hatchback in China

Could there be a car that could lead us to forgive Chrysler for the unloved Dodge Caliber. Yes, and it's called the 2014 Fiat Ottimo. This is the hatchback version of the Fiat Viaggio – a Fiat-badged Dodge Dart – that we heard about back in April, and it was just unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show to be built and sold in China next year. This stylish little five-door looks good enough to proudly wear a BMW or Audi badge, with a two-box design that works really well with the Dart's design.

Mitsubishi boss says US operations may break even next year

Mitsubishi has lost money in its North America operations every year since 2007, but in an interview at this week's Tokyo Motor Show, company president Osamu Masuko said, "If things keep going well, it might be the case that we break even this year," Automotive News reports. A little context: Last month Mitsubishi predicted that it would lower its operating loss in the region to 4-billion yen ($40.7 million) by March 31, the end of the fiscal year, well above the previous fiscal year's operating loss of more than five times that amount.

We obsessively covered the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

We obsessively covered the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

To reiterate what Editor-in-Chief Neff said in our LA Auto Show wrap-up from earlier today, let's never do this whole two-major-shows-in-one-week thing ever again. Oh sure, we handled it, doing our whole obsessively kicking butt thing on a global scale. But here we are, Friday evening, and we're spent. What proved interesting to see this week was just how different the Tokyo Motor Show was from its LA counterpart. In California, we were treated to a host of new products from domestic automakers, largely with a focus on production intent designs.

THANK YOU! Digital Fall 2013 Was Amazing, And We Have A Winner

On September 30, we held the Ubergizmo Digital Fall 2013 party, which was co-produced with Stained Glass Labs, as the closing party of the Glazed conference. Digital Fall 2013 was held in a night club in San Francisco, and featured a Tech Fashion Show with a lot of wearable devices being shown on the runaway. During the evening, attendees were able to wow us with their own wearable devices and "I've never seen so many pairs of Google Glass" was a common piece of feedback from our guests. We would like to thank Lenovo for sponsoring the event.
Talking about Lenovo, we're glad to announce that Jeff I.

Dropbox Releases Update For iOS 7

Just last week, Dropbox unveiled what looked like a potentially new design for iOS 7. The good news for Dropbox users is that if you did not already set your apps to be updated automatically, you can hit up the iTunes App Store and download the update which will bring your version of Dropbox up to the latest version where not only has the app been redesigned to fit the overall flatter and minimalist theme of iOS 7, but it has also introduced a host of small tweaks that should hopefully make your Dropbox experience better.

Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV could hint at next-gen Montero (video)

In desperate need of some competitive new products, Mitsubishi showed up at the Tokyo Motor Show with three concept vehicles. The most important of them might just be this fullsize Concept GC-PHEV (Grand Cruiser). With its full-time four-wheel-drive system and roughly the right package size, we can only hope it hints at a future design for the Pajero/Montero. Longer, taller and wider than the current Pajero (which is still offered in other markets), the Concept GC-PHEV is a big SUV with a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain.

1964 Ferrari 250 LM expected to net $12-15 million at RM's NY auction

If you're one of the very fortunate souls that has $12 to $15 million burning a very large hole in your pocket, we've found the perfect way to liberate yourself from the burden of so much money - buy this Ferrari, which is being put up for auction. It's a supremely rare Ferrari 250 LM, the 24th member of a 32-car run, that rolled off the assembly line on what we imagine was a brilliant, sunny Italian summer's day in July of 1964. Officially known as Chassis 6107, this 250 LM is rare because unlike its brothers, it wasn't originally bought to be a race car.

Mazda CEO says rotary not viable, so don't look for a new one

We have some very sad news to report, rotor-heads fans: Don't expect a new rotary-powered vehicle anytime soon. This comes straight from Masamichi Kogai, the CEO of Mazda, which is the only company to ever market a commercially successful rotary-powered automobile in the world. The issue, as it has pretty much always been, is environmental. While the Wankel rotary engine does indeed make a lot of power in a small, lightweight package, it does so while burning lots of fuel and emitting lots of noxious gases into the atmosphere, at least when running on gasoline.

Samsung Could Have Their Products Banned After All

Samsung Could Have Their Products Banned After All

Apple and Samsung are currently fighting it out in the courts (still) over how much Samsung's damages to the Cupertino company should be, but it seems that Samsung might have more to worry about than just money. According to the Wall Street Journal, they have reported that the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, they state that judge who made the original ruling against the ban of Samsung's products, Judge Lucy Koh, should reconsider her ruling and recommends that she "spend more time considering evidence offered by the iPhone maker to support arguments that Apple is being irreparably harmed by Samsung's patent infringement.".

Porsche marketers are having a field day with the 918 Spyder after some last-minute tuning improved the car's performance. They now say that it's so fast it's already beaten itself. Let us explain: Using a Weissach package-equipped 918 as an example (which reduces the plug-in hybrid supercar's weight through the deletion of some interior items, more generous use of carbon fiber and magnesium wheels), the car's previous official 0-62 miles-per-hour time of 2.8 seconds has been cut to 2.6.

Samsung Is Investigating Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update Issues

It hasn't been long since an official test build of Android 4.3 for Galaxy S3 was leaked online, this build was said to be quite similar to the one Samsung was due to publicly release. A few days after the leak, Samsung started to roll out Android 4.3 for international variants of the Galaxy S3, it was the very same build that had previously been leaked. The update roll out didn't go so smoothly though, as numerous users who had updated their devices complained about issues caused after the update. As a result, Samsung halted the roll out. The company has said in a statement that it is currently investigating these issues.

Aviation Regulators Failing Passenger Safety

AEI Secretary General Fred Bruggeman has informed delegates ahead of AEI’s 41st Annual Congress that “regulators are failing to uphold and protect passenger safety”. Evidence provided to congress revealed that more than 90% of aircraft defects only occur during a flight to home base, in other words on a flight to an airport where maintenance can be provided.

AT&T Offering 50% Off Several Devices Priced Under $199

So we reported that AT&T was offering the Nokia Lumia 1520 at $99, which was essentially the price of the device if it were at 50% off. Well it turns out that the deal applies not just to the Lumia 1520, but a handful of other brand new devices as well, such as the Apple iPhone 5c. It turns out that AT&T is offering a 50% deal via its online store, although this 50% deal appears to be limited to its devices that are priced $199 or lower on a two-year contract. What this means is that devices like the iPhone 5c, which is priced at $99 normally, will go for $49 on contract instead, which we reckon seems like a pretty good deal.
