Junior high students in Milton, Washington were confronted with just such a scenario, and 13-year-old Jeremy Wuitschick manned up in a big way. When his bus driver went into convulsions, he shot out of his seat, grabbed the wheel, pulled the bus over and had the presence of mind to pull the keys from the ignition. Wuitschick may have averted catastrophe with his actions.

Sharp rolls out high-res IGZO LCDs destined for tablets, laptops and monitors

Well, a week (or two) is a long time in the technology industry, and despite that joint venture with Sony heading south, it's not all bad news for Sharp. According to a press release from the panel maker, it has begun production of the world's first screens based on IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) technology. These screens are said to promise twice the detail as existing panels of similar transparency, which also translates into a hefty 90 percent reduction in power consumption, reports PC World.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala just made its debut at the New York Auto Show, and stuck there on its vaguely-Hofmeister-esque C-Pillar is a new version of the classic Impala mascot. The gracefully leaping African antelope is a little smoother and more rounded, but still the well-established icon it's been since its 1958 introduction. It may seem a small detail, but changing a long-established bit of iconography is tricky. Designers must carefully balance any tweaking against recognizeability and consumer goodwill.

HTC One X gets unofficial power management fix, boosts battery life 10 to 20 percent

Somewhere along mike1986′s development of Android Revolution HD, a custom ROM for the HTC One X, he found that something amiss with the smartphone's stock system — its Tegra 3 power management software didn't function properly. According to the developer, an app known as NvCPLSvc.apk was misplaced in the /system/bin folder, rather than its proper destination of /system/app. Along with the custom ROM, mike1986 has released the fix as a separate bundle, which is detailed in the source below. To apply the patch, users must push the new APK to their handset via ADB, and then alter the file's permissions.

Raspberry Pi Shipments over the Coming Week

After several delays, the Raspberry Pi PC is finally expected to ship imminently. According to reports, some customers have already started receiving alert notifications via their e-mail telling that the shipment of the long awaited device is just around the corner. At the same time, there are apparently a group of customers that are complaining about issues in processing for their e-mailed voucher codes. This problem stemmed from the sheer volume of customers looking to receive or order the Raspberry Pi device.

Dodge Dart to be pronounced 'Fiat Viaggio' in Italian

You have to love the global auto industry. Fiat will be introducing a Chinese-built version of the American Dodge Dart, a car that's based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, at the Beijing auto show on April 23. Dubbed "Viaggio," production of the new sedan will launch in July, with sales commencing in China by the end of the year. While Fiat isn't saying whether the model will be exported from China, the Viaggio will be powered by Fiat's 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder. Two versions will be available, one making 120 hp and the other 150, with either a five-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

StatCounter finds 1366 x 768 to be most popular screen resolution for the first time

It's had quite a run, but it looks like the old standby resolution of web designers everywhere, 1024 x 768, has finally been eclipsed by a newer, wider rival. According to web analytics firm StatCounter, use of 1024 x 768 fell from 41.8 percent in March of 2009 to 18.6 percent this March, while 1366 x 768 (common to many laptops) shot up from just 0.68 percent to 19.28 percent during the same time period, making it the most popular screen resolution worldwide. 1280 x 800 sits in third place at 13 percent, while all other resolutions remain in the single digits.

Yes, we have heard plenty about the two models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 which are touted for an April and May launch (while unboxing the Galaxy Tab 2 7″ model already), but here is more news on yet another two tablets from the South Korean conglomerate – the Samsung Espresso 10 and Samsung Espresso 7. This bit of news will certainly jolt you like a shot of caffeine, and it seems that both Espresso tablets will be released this coming June. On April 12th 1976, one of the three co-founders of Apple Computer sold his stake in the company for $2,300. Ronald Wayne says that at that time with the information that was available to him, that was the best decision he made. Unlike Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Wayne had capital on the line and stood to lose all his assets in the chance that the emerging technology firm went under. After retreating from Apple, he went on to an industrious career as an engineer in firms like the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and others. After that, he opened a stamp shop before finally retiring to Pahrump, Nevada.

UpdtBot Android malware discovered, spreads through SMS

Uh-oh, it looks like another malware has been discovered for Android devices. Dubbed the UpdtBot, the malware has been discovered by NQ Mobile Security Research Center and has been revealed to spread through SMS. The malware disguises itself as a SMS with a link asking users to click in order to update their system. Once the link has been clicked and the malware has been installed, UpdtBot will then communicate back to a remote Command and Control center which has the ability to command the malware remotely.

Nook Simple Touch with front-lit eInk display launching soon?

Barnes & Noble looks to be bringing yet another progression in eInk technology to their Nook series of e-readers. An advertisement has surfaced that touts a Android-based Nook Simple Touch model with something called GlowLight, a cutesy name for describing a front-lit eInk display. Unlike traditional back-lit displays, GlowLight uses a lighting apparatus positioned above the main display to distribute light across its surface. The image originates with The Digital Reader along with claims that the new Nook will launch very soon, quite possibly as early as today.

How important is the auto industry to state and federal governments. According to the Center for Automotive Research, the industry accounts for $135 billion in annual taxes. In fact, a reported 13 percent of all state taxes comes from the automobile, or $91.5 billion in total. Just as impressive is the overall money that Americans pour into their four-wheeled transportation. CAR estimates that auto sales come in at $564 billion, and parts, repairs and other services add in another $173 billion. And those are the staggering numbers generated in an auto market of only 12 million units per year.

We did skim the topic on Crysis 3 being announced sometime next week after Origin has leaked listings of the unannounced title, with GameReactor Sweden teasing the masses with cover art of the game alongside listings of the different versions of the game –  Limited Edition for the Xbox, Limited Edition for the PC and a digital download for the PC. Well, a Russian website has seemingly decided to take the road less traveled, by claiming a spring 2013 release is where Crysis 3 is headed, so there is absolutely no need to hang around since there is still more than half a year to go before our calendars end with 2013.

The second generation Aakash tablet, known as the Aakash 2 for obvious reasons, is slated for a release in the coming few weeks in India, but there is one caveat with this super cheap tablet (with a subsidized sticker price tag of approximately $35) – it will come only with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is very much passe considering how many of the other Android devices these days are making their way towards the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version. Well, good news, as UK-based Datawind intends to roll out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Aakash 2 within a couple of months after the Aakash 2 is released.

RIM plans to remove sideloading in future update

RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook is not the most attractive tablet device to purchase at the moment as there does not seem to be any bright long term future for it, but that does not mean RIM has thrown in the towel already. No sir, RIM is still forging ahead with the BlackBerry PlayBook, but their latest move might not prove to be too popular. Sideloading, a function that describes the ability for the PlayBook OS to interpret Android apps, might actually be removed according to RIM VP Alec Saunders' recent Twitter post. According to Saunders, this move is a necessary evil because of the downside to sideloading – that is, the issue of piracy.

Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S got you excited. Well, it appears the new Toyobaru twins might be moving the needle at other automakers, too. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the pair may have challenged Nissan to once again reinvestigate its on-again, off-again plans for an affordable, lightweight sports coupe of its own. Nissan's Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, says his employer is looking at downsizing its Z sports car, though it isn't clear if that would mean the Japanese automaker would field two separate Z models or just replace the current 370Z with a smaller, less costly model.

. I sit here with my brand new Galaxy Nexus, realizing just how slippery the device is. Knowing me, I will probably drop it at some point, and am considering just getting a case.
