Monolith iPhone 4 case with built-in projector

If you're looking for an iPhone case which combines a battery pack and a projector all rolled into one, the Japanese accessory maker, Century, might have just what you're looking for in the form of the Monolith casing for the iPhone 4. We're not sure why anyone would need such a case, but with our smartphones getting smarter by the day, for those looking to do an impromptu presentation on the wall of their local Starbucks will probably find the built-in projector rather handy. According to Century, the projector will be able to project images up to 60cm in 640×360 resolution, with 1000:1 contrast ratio and 12 lumens brightness.

Boxee Box adds music streaming from Spotify, just press play

Today the Boxee Box becomes the next media streamer in the US (after the WDTV Live and Live Hub) to add support for Spotify's streaming music library. Assuming you have a premium subscription at the ready (free and unlimited passes won't cut it, consider this the same as access on a smartphone) all you need do is log in and your personally curated selections from the company's catalog of sounds is available in your home theater. We gave it a quick try on our own system and found it synced our favorites with no problem, however if you don't have playlists set up there's no way to search or pull in songs from different sources.

Google Q3 profits beat estimates, 190M Androids activated

Larry Page, who not so long ago took over as Google's CEO, handed in the company's Q3 financial results with a big smile on his face. Revenues were up 33% Year-on-Year (YoY) to $9.72 billion. Of that cool 31% transferred into operating income ($3.06 billion) and 24% ($2.21 billion) went to advertisers. The same numbers for last year's Q3 were 35% ($2.55 billion) and 26% ($1.81 billion).

The number of paid clicks on Google's ads increased 28% YoY and 13% compared to the previous quarter of this year.

Toshiba Regza 4K 2D display to be released in December 2011

Toshiba's flagship Regza 4K 2D display will boast four times the resolution of Full HD, where it will also support glasses-free 3D. Basically, when this particular model arrives in the market in the middle of December onwards (in Japan first, no less), it might just be the start of the 4K TV revolution. Of course, it will take a whole lot longer than expected, considering how everyone has just moved on to the Full HD bandwagon recently, and prices of Full HD TVs have become affordable. Basically this 55″ TV is impressively large for what it can do, especially when you compare it to the previous 20″ glasses-free 3D model.

We would normally use the term “unbox” for a particular piece of hardware, but why is it being applied to software right now, especially a mobile operating system from Google. Well, the answer can be summed up simply – this is a literal representation of Ice Cream Sandwich, Google's nickname for their Android 4.0 operating system that will be able to play nice with both tablets and smartphones, bridging the gap between Android 2.3 Gingerbread that catered to just smartphones, while Android 3.x Honeycomb was optimized for tablets.

Microsoft's crossed yet another name off its patent licensing hit list, and this time the big red target lands squarely on Quanta. Under the undisclosed terms of the agreement, Android and Chrome-based devices manufactured by the Taiwanese OEM will be protected by Redmond's vast patent portfolio. Of course, this means MS'll receive royalties for granting access to its treasure trove of related IPs - of which it has no dearth of at the moment.

Apple prepping for cloud movie services?

So we know that Apple has launched iCloud, but beyond storing and syncing to your various Mac and iOS devices, there are rumors that suggest Apple may have bigger plans for iCloud, and looking into the possibility of streaming movies from the cloud to Mac or iOS devices, such as the iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. This seems to be in line with Apple's plans to cut the cord between devices and computers, and they're hoping to allow their users who purchase movies and videos from iTunes the ability to stream their purchases without having to manually transfer the files.

. Apple is reportedly close to inking deals with major movie studios that would allow the Cupertino-based company to stream movies to its iOS devices and PCs via iCloud. Los Angeles Times on Wednesday reported that Apple has been meeting with movie studios and is currently closing licensing deals that will allow its customers to purchase movies through iTunes and then stream them from iCloud to mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad, or even to Mac computers or Apple TV.

Nvidia powering world's most powerful supercomputer

Tuesday Nvidia said that Oak Ridge National Laboratory has chosen Tesla GPUs to power a new Cray XK6 supercomputer called “Titan” for the U.S. Department of Energy's open science computing facility located in Tennessee. Titan will integrate 299,088 AMD Opteron processing cores (18,688 16-core CPUs) as well as 7000 to 18,000 Nvidia Kepler GPUs. The system, which is scheduled to completed in late 2012, will also integrate 600 TB of memory.

Seagate's latest addition to its GoFlex line of hard drives is dubbed the Cinema and, as you've probably guessed, it's designed to hook up to your home entertainment system. Inside is a set of spinning platters up to 3TB in size, and around back are HDMI, composite, and S/PDIF hookups. This isn't just some hard drive with a marketing gimmick though. Bangladesh has unveiled a domestically made laptop namely the “Doel”. It is claimed to be the cheapest laptop in the world. The state-owned telecoms company Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) is producing four models of the laptop. The high-end model runs on the Google Android operating system. The basic model is priced at 10,000 taka or only $130.

Chevy bringing Belle Isle Grand Prix back to Detroit in 2012

Open-wheel racing is returning to the Motor City next summer. The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will be held June 1-3, the first of a three-year sponsorship deal between General Motors, Penske Corporation and the IndyCar series. The weekend of racing will feature not only an IndyCar race, but the first Grand-Am event ever held on Detroit's island course. The new Detroit race will take the place of another IndyCar event on the schedule, though officials did not say which one. IndyCar officials expect starting grids to have 25-28 cars next season.

Find my Friends and Airport Utility for iOS. And yes, my Time Capsule is called Tardis. What else would it be. Apple's iCloud launches today, along with a few new iOS apps. And while we're still waiting for the iWork and iPhoto updates that will allow us to use the new syncing and Photo Stream sharing services, Apple has released the Find My Friends and Airport Utility apps.

Find My Friends was announced last week at the iPhone 4S event. It lets you see where your friends are on a map, and lets them track you. One neat feature is the “temporary” setting, which shares your location for a limited time.

Here is a leaked picture of the upcoming LG Doubleplay (Flip II) from T-Mobile. The LG Doubleplay will be released on November 2, 2011 for $149.99 with a new two-year contract.

Apple releases iTunes 10.5 with iTunes in the Cloud

As far as iTunes updates go this is a pretty big one — version 10.5 brings with it what Apple's calling iTunes in the Cloud, which allows for automatic downloads of purchases to your Mac or Windows computers and all of your iOS devices, as well as the ability to download previous purchases on said devices as many times as you want. It's not exactly a traditional cloud-based service, but you do always have access to all of your purchased media, regardless of the device (so long as it runs some form of iTunes).

Prior to the PS Vita existed the PSPgo, which was an expensive upgrade for players who may have invested heavily in UMD games for their PSP. Due to the not-so-significant update of the PSPgo compared to the PS Vita, it just did not make sense, but now with the PS Vita seeing huge improvements and new features, undoubtedly there will be plenty of PSP owners who are looking forward to making the jump.

. Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie took the wraps off a new NFC-based BlackBerry service during his keynote presentation at the GITEX conference in Dubai this week. Dubbed BlackBerry Tag, the new feature will allow BlackBerry users to share contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia files by tapping one handset against another.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II review

What else is there to say. Whether in its original, exotic exterior, its lightly changed but rather more accessible AT&T-flavored model, or the decidedly Epic Sprint version, the Samsung Galaxy S II has never failed to impress us. In fact, we called that first release "the best Android smartphone yet" and still, nearly six months later, it sits mighty close to the top of the pile - if not squarely at the peak, waving its flag proudly whilst taunting the others below. Here today we're looking at the last of the Three Musketeers: the T-Mobile version. This marks the final US release of the Galaxy S II, unveiled in late-August.
