Teen Builds Battery To Power Home

Teen Builds Battery To Power Home

Here we are with a future Tony Stark in the making – 15-year-old Kelvin Doe, who lives in Sierra Leone with his parents, must have had enough of an erratic electricity power supply, and decided that instead of complaining or whining about the situation, he would rather take positive steps and do something about it.

Bentley EXP 9 F to be redesigned, renamed Falcon?

In concept form, the Bentley EXP 9 F had neither the styling nor the name to impress us when we first saw it earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, and while we already knew some sort of design change was imminent, we're unsurprisingly now hearing that a name change is also in the cards.

A Security Prescription for the Holiday Shopping Season

A Security Prescription for the Holiday Shopping Season

In anticipation of a greater holiday season this year, many retailers are now kicking off their sales a few days early. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend about 4.1 percent more this holiday season than last. Unfortunately, it's not just retailers who will be using unbelievable offers to lure consumers into parting with their hard-earned cash on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Mobile Tuesday or in the days that precede them. Cybercriminals are also hard at work to offer the most enticing online scams.

SNAP Longboard Folds In Half For Portability

Instead of taking bus number 11 to your work (which is a nickname for your two legs – in case you were wondering why, just take a look at both legs and figure it out from there), here is an easier way to get about doing so, although in extremely crowded situations, it might be less than ideal. I am referring to the SNAP longboard that helps you cruise city streets with relative ease.

iPhone App Makes Map Navigation Easier to Visualize

Crossfader has developed Version 1.4 of AR-MAPS, an iPhone app that supports augmented reality (AR) on maps. AR is one of visualization solutions. This map application represents the ground on the bottom half of the screen, showing a map there. On the top half, it shows a video, with AR tags attached to destinations on it. This makes navigation easier to visualize.

“AR-MAPS supports the iPhone. On the iPhone 5 (recommended models are iPhone 4S/5), you can choose between standard maps and Google Maps. Regarding Version 1.4, the first point is, this version supports English.

Nokia Lumia 920 Review

Nokia Lumia 920 Review

With widespread availability (except if you want to get an off-contract Lumia 920), we have purchased a retail unit of the Lumia 920 to write this complete review. This is the final hardware and it ships with the launch release of Windows Phone 8: this is what you may end up owning. The Lumia 920 is Nokia's shot at being the reference smartphone for Windows Phone 8, and as such Nokia has equipped it with what the company calls PureView which means that it's supposed to have an awesome camera. For this new generation of Lumia, Nokia has kept the original Lumia style and manufacturing technology.

Wii U Bricked During Firmware Update

Wii U Bricked During Firmware Update

Normally when one performs a firmware update on a piece of hardware, you generally make sure it remains plugged into the power source instead of relying on the internal battery's charge (where possible), and you do not touch any of the cables hooked up to it until the entire process is done. The thing is, video game industry journalist Ben Fritz unplugged his spanking new Wii U during a firmware update as there was no way to cancel the download and he did not want to wait for the stipulated two hours required to complete the update, resulting in a bricked Wii U.

There were 56 laps run in Austin's Travis County prairie to complete the inaugural United States Grand Prix at the newly minted Circuit of the Americas. Coming into the race, there were nothing but questions and calculations: Would the track be any good for Formula One. Could Red Bull Racing get the five points it needed to take the F1 Constructor's Championship. Would Turn One be the Golgotha everyone predicted.

The Aquos Phone SH930W slightly rethinks the internals of HTC's new Android 4.1 flagship to make it more affordable, doubling the non-expandable storage to 32GB but scaling back to a dual-core, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 and dropping the currently unsupported LTE.

Dropbox Chooser lets web apps attach files from the cloud

When Dropbox decided to get all close and cozy with Facebook Groups, that was just the beginning. With its new Chooser tool any developer can integrate Dropbox for quickly and easily sharing files stored in the cloud. Rather than upload or attach files from your desktop you can simply link files from your online folders. And, since the attachment is actually stored with Dropbox, rather than copied to a site's own servers, every time you update a document it's automatically updated for everyone else too. The first site to integrate the new tool is task management service Asana.

2013 Toyota RAV4 teased ahead of LA debut

We'll get our first glimpse of the all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 at the Los Angeles Auto Show in a couple of weeks (unless the new crossover falls victim to a case of internet leakage), and to keep our interest piqued, Toyota has released this brief teaser video for its new small CUV. There really isn't a whole lot to be seen in the video, save a few quick glimpses of the new car including the headlight/grille shot you see above. To hear Toyota tell it, the 2013 RAV4 is "a new generation rewriting the rules of style, embodying sophistication and strength – a dynamism that adapts to the changing pace of life." Whatever that means.

WSJ: Google in talks with Dish over wireless network partnership

Google's presence in the mobile market is strong, this much we know. What with the small matter of a hugely popular mobile OS, some pretty popular hardware, and fingers already in the network-provider pie. But what if there was just one more itch it needed to scratch, one big, wireless operator-shaped itch. Well, The Wall Street Journal asserts (via its anonymous sources) that talks between the big G and the recently spectrum-approved operator Dish are already taking place.

It certainly has Guitar Hero co-creator Charles Huang's attention - he's teamed up with Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend (who both had a hand in building various Palm devices) to create Green Throttle Games, an outfit that joins the ever-growing legion of firms out to convert your Android device into a full fledged gaming console. Elgato EyeTV Mobile ships to the US, brings Dyle live TV tuning to data cap-dodging iOS users

We've only seen periodic attempts at melding live ATSC-Mobile TV with iOS devices; more often than not, internet-free broadcasting to American smartphones and tablets has been the domain of Android. Elgato is seeking some balance by shipping one of the few peripherals delivering over-the-air US TV to our iPhones and iPads. The new version of the EyeTV Mobile dongle gives iOS devices with 30-pin connectors (or an adapter) access to live TV stations under Dyle Mobile TV's service umbrella, including some local Fox and NBC channels.

Vudu brings HDX 1080p streaming and downloadable movies to PCs

While HDX video has been a trademark for the Vudu service for years, when it launched streaming and Vudu-to-go downloads for PCs last year, they were limited to standard definition. That's been corrected recently, as the service is now offering 1080p or 720p HDX video via the web. What you still won't get on the PC unfortunately is higher quality sound as it's still limited to stereo audio for now, and in our tests we weren't able to access the Flash streams on a phone or tablet.

Red Bull infographic compares and contrasts NASCAR and F1

Red Bull infographic compares and contrasts NASCAR and F1

In the US, Formula One racing lost the popularity contest to NASCAR a long time ago. But after five years, F1 returns to the States with this weekend's race at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Red Bull, sponsor of F1 driver Sebastian Vettel, has put together an interesting set of numbers illustrating the differences between the two racing series. To start with, Formula One has just 24 drivers, while NASCAR fields 50 entrants. Stock cars can reach speeds of about 200 miles per hour, just a bit slower than F1's 205. But NASCAR drivers experience only about 2Gs of lateral force during, at most courses, only four left-hand turns.
