This effectively means you'll be able to get any smartphone, featurephone, tablet, or mobile hotspot for no money upfront. However, you will still have to pay monthly installments for each device you choose. For a few months, T-Mobile has employed this model of charging you a sum upfront, and then 24 equal monthly payments after that.

The Nokia Lumia 1020, a flagship device from Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia, is now up for sale on an official basis, despite its pre-order having hit the "sold out" status sometime last week. Running on the Windows Phone 8 operating system, where the Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available for $299.99, alongside a 2-year contract, with the device arriving in a choice of black, white, or yellow shades. There are whispers that a red version could be introduced to the masses sometime down the road, but it is just speculation as at press time.

Discuss Chromecast on ChromeSpot's new Chromecast Forums. When Google announced the Chromecast yesterday, the company revealed that those who order the device would be entitled to three free months of Netflix streaming video service for new or existing customers, which is about $8 per month. That's a savings of $24, which effectively makes the Chromecast $11 if you were planning on taking advantage of it.
Unfortunately, it looks like something might be up. Folks have noticed that the Google Play Store listing for the Chromecast no longer makes mention of the Netflix offer.

Ford isn't the only American automaker that's in the money. General Motors has just reported a second quarter income of $1.2 billion, although that number actually represents a year-to-year drop compared to Q2 2012. This drop can be chalked up to the expense behind launching a new line of full-size pickup trucks (the 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado), as well as the acquisition of GM Korea. Aside from those one-time costs, GM reported a seven-percent increase in income before interest and taxes, to $2.3 billion.

The rumored HTC One Max (HTC T6) has been officially announced by HTC, but new details from @evleaks claim that AT&T will be one of the carriers in the US to offer the over-sized phones. A leaked sketch of the HTC One Max (pictures above) suggest the device will look and feel the same as the HTC One while device specifications are expected to include a 5.9-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3,300mAh battery, BoomSound speakers, and an UltraPixel camera sensor.

NHTSA gives okay for three automakers to skirt tire-related recalls

BMW, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz are all going to avoid small recalls, after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued petitions for "findings of inconsequential noncompliance" to the three manufacturers, according to Tire Business. Basically, the petitions allow the brands to avoid recalls for some very, very minor issues. BMW had tire placards on 364 X6 M CUVs that stated the car could only handle four passengers, when in reality it had room for three in the back.

It's official: A panel of female automotive writers has chosen the Ford Fiesta 1.0-liter EcoBoost as the Womens World Car of the Year, and it beat tough competition like the Mazda CX-5, Range Rover and Porsche Boxster S for the overall top spot. I spy with my little eye, a crack in a Renaissance masterpiece. Well, that particular “job” has fallen onto the shoulders of a robot now, at least at Madrid's Reina Sofia museum in Spain. A huge robot will scan a painting of a masterpiece, where it will do so in an extremely slow process since it has to snap hundreds of microscopic shots via the use of infrared and ultraviolet photography. This particular robot will allow restorers to check out cracks, scratches and creases which are difficult to see at times with the naked eye, in addition to underlying preparatory sketches and other touch-ups.

Leap Motion controller review

Hardware and setup. The Leap hardware is actually quite unassuming, considering its capabilities. It's just over three inches long, an inch wide and less than a half-inch thick (79 x 30 x 11mm), with a glossy black panel on top, behind which resides the infrared sensors. On the bottom, you'll find a black rubber panel embossed with the Leap Motion logo. The edge, meanwhile, is ringed with a seamless aluminum band, save for a USB 3.0 Micro-B port on the left side (though the device runs at USB 2.0 speeds). There's also a slim LED power / status indicator on the front edge.
