When we first caught wind of the rumors, we questioned whether or not Motorola and Verizon would choose to brand the new XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition under a different name. With the first XOOM launching as a Verizon exclusive, it seemed logical the name would stay around. Instead, not only will the new line of tablets likely get a Droid prefix, but also the new Xyboard moniker.

Sure, we may be fast approaching the 12th year of the 21st century, but as you may have noticed, planet Earth has yet to be coated in a warm, fuzzy blanket of WiFi. And yes, we're just as befuddled as you. For now - and for the foreseeable future as well - we'll need to continue furnishing our own provisions for reliable wireless internet access, which is often no small feat. Fortunately, if you're able to find a USB 3G modem or Ethernet connection, TP-Link's new Portable 3G/3.75G Wireless N Router (TL-MR3020) can hook you up with WiFi for a mere $40.

The chipset follows up the highly-favored Tegra 2 and is already seeing its fair share of deployment in future Android slates. Slightly more interesting is the suggestion that the A700/A701 will feature full HD displays with 1080p resolution. The Grip adds a physical shutter-release to your iPhone, plugging into the 30-pin dock connector and working in tandem with a free companion app. It has two buttons, one for stills and one for video, and costs $50. A few months ago this may have seemed like a good idea, but now iOS5 lets us use the volume-up button to snap a photo, it seems rather pointless.

Exploit discovered in Siri servers, promises cross-platform access to the foolhardy

A few clever folk have had some fun with Siri lately, first by making it do the time warp with the Fat Mac and then by shoehorning it into an iPhone 3GS. Neither development is quite so intriguing, however, as a purported exploit that enables any device to access to Siri's remote server. While this certainly holds great potential for Siri apps on numerous platforms, the mystical floodgates to the masses are unlikely to open any time soon. You see, the hackers have since learned that for seamless communication to take place, a unique identifier from an iPhone 4S must be provided to the mothership in Cupertino.
