Firefox 6 breaks out ahead of schedule, gets official August 16th

It looks like the sly fox is ready to make its worldwide debut a few days early. In typical Mozilla fashion, a complete build of Firefox 6 is now unofficially available for your downloading pleasure, three days ahead of schedule. If you're looking for a major facelift to the desktop edition, you won't find one here - most of the new features aren't cosmetic. Perhaps most visibly, you'll find the domain name of the page you're parked on highlighted in the address bar.

Samsung will appeal a recent ruling by The Regional Court of Düsseldorf in Germany that bars the South Korean tablet maker from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 device in the whole of the European Union except for the Netherlands, The Wall Street Journal said on Friday. The appeal court date is set for August 25th. Samsung could face fines of up to $350,000 per unit if it continues to sell the device in the European Union. On August 1st, Apple also blocked Samsung from selling its tablet in Australia until courts rule whether or not the device infringes on 10 of Apple's patents.

Circuit of the Americas in Austin coming together before your very eyes

Whether you're driving an F1 car or riding a superbike, getting around any racing circuit this side of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is a rather rapid affair. Which is more than we could say for building one – that bit takes some time. Together with the cash it takes to finance such a venture, that goes some way towards explaining why you don't see it happening every day. But that's what's going on as we speak in Austin, Texas. The facility is called the Circuit of the Americas, and it's set to host a host of top-level races starting next year, including Formula 1, MotoGP and the V8 Supercar series porting over from Australia.

Researchers demo 3D face scanning breakthroughs at SIGGRAPH, Kinect crowd squarely targeted

Lookin' to get your Grown Nerd on. Look no further. We just sat through 1.5 hours of high-brow technobabble here at SIGGRAPH 2011, where a gaggle of gurus with IQs far, far higher than ours explained in detail what the future of 3D face scanning would hold. Scientists from ETH Zürich, Texas A&M, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University as well as a variety of folks from Microsoft Research and Disney Research labs were on hand, with each subset revealing a slightly different technique to solving an all-too-similar problem: painfully accurate 3D face tracking. Jay-Z and Kanye go all Mad Max on a Maybach

If you've got money and taste, you might choose a new Bentley or Rolls-Royce. But if you've only got the former, you might be more inclined to go with a Maybach. In fact, as often as Phantoms show up in hip-hop videos, we're pretty sure the only people buying Maybachs are Daimler executives and rap stars. Case in point, the latest music video from Jay-Z and Kanye West. With plenty of Benjamins between them to burn, the hip-hop mega stars take a new Maybach limousine and shred it up all Mad Max style in the video for "Otis," the single off their latest collaboration Watch the Throne.

2011-12 Audi R8 Spyder recalled for fuel leak

Not even supercars are safe from recalls. Audi is recalling certain R8 Spyders for a potential fuel leak, caused by the fuel supply line rubbing against the heat shield in the engine compartment. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this effects droptop R8s built between May 18, 2010 and June 22, 2011. We don't need to tell you why a fuel leak is a potential disaster. Anyone who dropped the cash for an R8 Spyder surely will not want to see it go up in flames.
The official recall is expected to begin on August 22, and owners will be able to have their cars inspected and repaired free of charge.

HTC Mazaa GPU performance showcased

The HTC Mazaa does not look as though it will ever hit the mass market for reasons that HTC only knows, but it seems as though this is a souped up version of the HTC Trophy. Interestingly enough, this smartphone was the giveaway prize in at least two of Microsoft developer contests, but at least it is a benchmark of what is to come with the next generation of Windows Phone 7 Mango devices. It seems as though the HTC Mazaa has proven itself to be quite the solid performer, thanks to an Adreno 205 GPU inside, where the Mazaa hit 50 FPS in benchmark tests.

Deakin University makes three-wheeler safe to ride in

A bunch of students over at Deakin University believe that they have managed to solve the problem of three-wheeler vehicles falling over, clearly believing in the adage that prevention is far better than cure. Well, they intend to turn their idea and research into money through the search for manufacturing partners who are willing to introduce a new (and safe) motorcycle-car crossover into production. Why not look at the tuk-tuks in Thailand.

HTC Invests In Beats Technology!

HTC Invests In Beats Technology!

We heard about a big announcement coming from HTC earlier in the day, and could only speculate as to what it would be. HTC seem to be adding to their portfolio lately, what with the recent acquisition of Dashwire, and S3 Graphics, it should probably come as no shock that HTC has now invested something like 300 million dollars in to Beats Technology. Beats, mainly known for their Headphone Line, is lesser known for the tech that is especially useful  for allegedly restoring the finer details in an audio file that have been inevitably lost due to compression when it is converted into more portable but lossy formats such as MP3.

Dell Inspiron 13z and 14z gets slimmed down

Dell Inspiron 13z and 14z gets slimmed down

Dell has been known in the past for creating computers that were not only affordable, but also of relatively good quality, not to mention their superb customer service and delivery times. As of late all those qualities seem to have taken a dive, which might explain why Dell has just updated their Inspiron 13z and 14z, both of which are now sporting slimmer designs along with aluminum lids. The aluminum will not only be for the lids, but will also be for the palm rests, which we're thinking may solve the problem of ugly palm marks due to wear and tear that are highly common in laptops sporting a plastic casing.
