DiMora sketches out new neoclassic lines

We won't press it yet, but let's just say our hand is hovering over the big red "Vaporware!" button we keep armed for just such announcements. DiMora Motorcars still owes us – and LV Resorts – the $2-million SLS 2 sedan with its 1,200-horsepower Volcano V16 engine, Barotex fibers and MP3-enabled horn. While we wait for it, DiMora has seen fit to announce not just a new car, but a new division with two new cars said to be "nearing completion." The Neoclassic Automobiles Subsidiary will, depending on your credulity, be producing the Adina Sportster and Vicci 6.2 Super-Coupe.

Co-founder of TiVo and CTO Jim Barton has long outlasted our deathwatch, but his time as an executive at the DVR maker quietly came to an end this week according to documents filed with the SEC. CEO Tom Rogers thanked Jim for his "commitment to innovation" in a statement, and the filing indicates he will stick around as a $25,000 per month consultant in "patent matters and litigation" among other things - nice work if you can get it - until March 15, 2015, but his reason for stepping down is unspecified.

Sony has developed the Authentication Power Outlet, which can supply power only to authenticated equipment. It uses the FeliCa contactless smart card technology, with a reader/writer capability built into the power outlet side, and a FeliCa Lite chip on the plug side. “For example, this dryer is used in the same way as you've always used it. This dryer's data is written to the chip built into the plug. When you set the dryer like this, it works just as if it had a chip built in from the start.

Partnering with the Enterprise: Visa, CocaCola, CBS, and LivePerson

Last year, billions where spent on deals between the enterprise and emerging companies.  Visa invested in Square, Jive partnered with SalesCrunch, Salesforce acquired Rypple and the list goes on and on.  Partnerships, investments, and acquisitions seem rampant when you read the tech blogs, however, startups will tell you it's not exactly reality. Finding the right guy and getting the meeting is tough, you usually have to enter through multiple touch points just to find the right person.
If you do your homework and know who to target, it can be easier.

In the newest edition, CyanogenMod 9, the team behind the ROM is taking a step back in the interest of security. By default, root access will be disabled in CM9. Users will have the option of enabling root in three different modes.

Apple makes Shaq and William Gibson wait until launch day, too

Apple is one of the few companies that treat celebrities, sports stars, and authors like normal human beings. Fast Company spoke with a few notable humans who have asked Apple for a new toy before its formal release - and came away with a few funny stories. NBA star Shaquille O'Neal said he frequently called Steve Jobs to ask for an iPhone 4 before it was released to the public. Jobs responded “Shaq, I can't, I can't, I can't.” Author William Gibson, on the other hand, never reached out to Apple but wondered if the company would reach out to him some day.

As you can see in the video below, it has a nice, fingerprint-resistant rubber back, along with an IPS display and Ice Cream Sandwich as an OS - not too shabby for what's clearly a low-end device.

It's unclear exactly what other changes are in store for the next Fiesta, though reports have suggested that EcoBoost power may soon be found underhood.

Normally, restaurants that serve wines have their own sommelier, so that diners who are less well informed will be able to know whether the kind of food that they have ordered will be able to go down well with certain wines. Well, since times are hard at the moment, it might be better to save costs by not hiring a sommelier – and letting a computer do the job for you instead. This table computer will be able to read a bar-code that is located at the bottom of the wine bottle, before retrieving information about that bottle from its database and showing it up on the table. This is made possible thanks to Microsoft's Surface technology.
