Chris Harris capitulates on his hatred for the Mazda MX-5 Miata... sort of

Chris Harris and the Mazda MX-5 Miata have a bit of a checkered past. The infamous auto writer once sank his teeth into the little Japanese convertible and didn't stop until he drew blood, saying he was "completely ambivalent to the existence" of the machine, and that it drove "with all the precision of a boneless limb." For reasons that don't need enunciation, Harris has received plenty of flack over those comments. Now he's taken the time to give the Miata another shot to see if he was misguided in his derision. What's the verdict? Harris says he may have been a little too hard on the Miata on the first go around.

T-Mobile might be might be late to the Samsung Galaxy Note party in the US, but I guess they have learnt from the past, and this time around they do not intend to miss the Galaxy Note 2 boat by making it available to the masses – and soon, too, if a particular screenshot is to be believed. WiFi alliance begins Tunneled Direct Link Setup certification, hopes to improve media streaming

You can thank the WiFi alliance for a number of things, and soon you can add TDLS to that list. That's Tunneled Direct Link Setup, if you were wondering, and it's a standard for creating direct links between devices. If this sounds familiar, that's understandable, but TDLS has its own tricks, like working in the background of a network to optimize performance, and it can even work over a WiFi Direct connection. For example two compliant devices can measure the signal strength on the network, and determine if a direct link would be better or not.

iPhone 5 gets native turn-by-turn navigation, car connectivity questions remain

The big news yesterday in the tech world (and most of the rest of the world) was the debut of the iPhone 5. If you have not yet been left with a feeling of inferiority due to your current device, this should put you over the top. The new iPhone will come with the Apple Maps app. Maps is Apple's rebuttal to the hugely popular Google Maps, and comes with a host of functionality.
One of the key features of the app is turn-by-turn navigation with voice prompts from Siri. Just like an in-car navigation system, as you approach a turn, a 3D view appears to better show the user where to turn.

Is Android doomed in the wake of the Apple v. Samsung verdict? Not a chance

. There have been rumblings in some corners of the tech press that Google (GOOG) ought to be quaking in its boots in the wake of the Apple (AAPL) v. Samsung (005930) patent verdict because it could give Apple enough juice to take out Android all together. This is highly unlikely to ever happen for a multitude of reasons, but the most important is that Google has a lot of money, a lot of creative and talented people, and a lot of incentive to make sure that Android remains successful.

Before soon, a member of the hacktivist group, Anonymous, claimed responsibility for the attack, boasting that he did so to expose the security vulnerabilities of the service. However, the company soon responded by rebuffing such claims and stated that the entire issue was the result of some internal network failure which was addressed and fixed within hours.

The Western Digital (WD) VelociRaptor name originally came from WD's line of high-performance hard drives which are pro-summer/enthusiast version of drives typically used in servers etc. Instead of rotating at 7200rpm, those drives could spin at 10,000rpm, which made data seek times much better. The Western Digital VelociRaptor Duo is an external Thunderbolt case that contains two such drives, and the combined maximum capacity is 2TB (2x1TB).  Each VelociRaptor Duo box has additional Thunderbolt connectors so that users can “daisy-chain” drives to add additional capacity or simply connect more Thunderbolt devices.

Do you remember the BMW C1. The funky scooter from the German automaker has become something of a two-wheeled cult classic. The scooter made either 15 or 18 horsepower, depending on which model you got. But the most notable thing about the C1 was its futuristic windshield/roof combination and its emphasis on safety – with its integrated seatbelt, it was said to be so safe as to not require a helmet.
BMW got out of the scooter game when it ended production of the C1 in 2003, but it's poised to reemphasize that market in a big way.
