Watch the life of a racer at the 24 Hours of Daytona

At this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona, Brumos Racing driver Leh Keen wore a camera strapped to his chest. But he didn't just wear it for the race, he wore it for the entire event, from the plane ride in to the post-race press conference. Brumos Racing won last year's GT championship and it started off this year by taking third in the #59 Brumos Porsche 911 GT3 at Daytona. One of Keen's co-drivers was Hurley Haywood, who helped win the same race for the same team in 1973 and 1975.

Most concepts you'll see on the show stands of the Geneva Motor Show will come packing some manner of sci-fi powertrain and ultra-expensive chassis and body materials. That's where the Toyota FT-Bh concept stands apart. Toyota is calling it a "full hybrid city car study," so the FT-Bh isn't destined for production.

Mobility Fund visualizes the non-3G United States, too many areas lacking

For those of us from large metropolitan areas, we often take our 3G, if not 4G, coverage for granted, but the number of areas in the United States not serviced by a high-speed mobile network may surprise you. Each splotch of black on the above map represents an area of the US population that was not receiving at least 3G coverage as of January 2012. The splotches become bigger and bigger as you move out west. The interactive map (embedded below) allows you to zoom in and get a better idea of just how many citizens are affected. The numbers are usually rather low, ranging from a handful of people up to a few thousand, but they add up.

iPad 3 demo apps and commercials being finalized?

We've all heard rumors about the iPad 3 being announced in the first week of March, and now there are more reports online corroborating with the previous story. According to the folks at The Next Web who were tipped off by some sources, Apple is currently “in ‘crunch mode' when it comes to lining up apps both to demonstrate on-stage and to show off in new advertisements for its third iPad.” The iPad 2 had Garage Band, iMovie and Photo Booth showing off its abilities when it was announced last year, so it'll be interesting to see what will be demonstrated this year.

Motorola Gleam+ featurephone takes clamshell route

Motorola must be credited for churning out the first fashionable clamshell handset – the Motorola StarTAC. I remember that handset, where the battery was located in an unconventional area, and it proved to be the Ferrari of mobile phones back in the day, and there was always the satisfaction of closing the handset after a conversation, or simply flipping it open to receive an incoming call.

. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an agency within the United States Department of Commerce, will stop using BlackBerry phones later this year and instead supply workers with Apple's mobile devices. In a memo relayed by Loop Insight, NOAA's Chief Information Officer and Director for High Performance Computing and Communications said that support for BlackBerry phones will cease in May of this year. Apple's iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will replace the agency's BlackBerry handsets, and NOAA plans to adopt current and future generations of Apple's iPad tablet as well.

The Nokia N9 is the company's first and last MeeGo product. The device itself sports a rather interesting design with decent specs to boot, and for Android fans around the world, if you wished that Nokia had gone with Android instead of Windows Phone, you might be in luck as developer Alexey Roslyakov, who is part of the NITDroid team, has revealed via his Twitter what appears to be Android 4.0 running on the N9. Unfortunately this appears to be a rather early build and all his Twitter revealed was that it was work in progress.

ASUS Transformer Prime receives new OTA update

If you own an ASUS Transformer Prime tablet, look out for a new OTA update that is being delivered to the Android device today. Apparently the update brings the tablet up to version 9.4.2.13, kernel version 2.6.39.4 and WiFi to version 6.1.1.18 and Bluetooth to 9.26. The update is said to fix previously reported problems that were plaguing the Transformer Prime in the past: random reboots, screen flickering, and apps crashing. The new update also improves the speed of WiFi, but it does break root access - for those of you that have it on your tablet.

High-end Nokia Windows Phone to launch at MWC?

Nokia and Windows Phone seems to be in the news a lot recently - and now we've got one more article to add to that growing stack. According to Forbes' industry source - the Finnish phone giant will be unveiling “at least one new, high-end handset” at Mobile World Congress 2012 this month. Assuming the source of the information is correct, it looks like there will be one more Nokia phone besides the Lumia 900 (which hasn't even been released yet) to look forward to this year.

Desktop apps may run on Win8 for ARM after all… maybe

The issue of whether or not the ARM edition of Windows 8 will support both desktop and Metro-style apps has been pretty hazy. Some have claimed it would, others that it won't and, even when they've issued denials of the nay-sayers, Microsoft has stopped short of saying that ARM hardware would offer a desktop mode for non-Metro apps.

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible kicks out 650 hp, limits top speed

Twenty years ago, Ford debuted the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra at the Chicago Auto Show and introduced the world to its high-performance skunkworks department, known as SVT or Special Vehicle Team. Today, Ford celebrates SVT's platinum anniversary the only way it knows how: with another Mustang variant. And as suspected, it comes in the form of a topless Shelby GT500.
Just as a refresher, at the 1992 show in Chicago the SVT Cobra put out 235 horsepower from its Vanilla Ice-approved 5.0-liter V8.

More room, more power, more fuel efficiency and more advanced all-wheel drive are the four unique selling propositions for the 2013 Acura RDX. As with the 2013 ILX, the productionized version of Acura's people-hauler is very, very similar to the RDX Concept from Detroit with a new set of wheels and a new paint job. The 3.5-liter V6 throws 33 more horsepower into the mix versus the previous generation's turbocharged four, and a brand new six-speed automatic transmission helps return an estimated 20 city/28 highway mile-per-gallon rating for the front-wheel-drive model.

The Dell Ultrabook Challenge in San Francisco

I hate lugging around my work laptop because it is bulky and weighs too much. That's why my personal laptop is a 13″ Macbook Air. I like thin and light. Those of you that prefer the Windows OS and are interested in an ultra portable computer should consider the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. It's due any day now and it looks really sexy with its super thin carbon fiber case and 13″ Gorilla glass display. It's not all looks and no brains though as it is powered by your choice of a 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ i5 or i7 processor.

Nokia Lumia 710 call behavior problem fix coming

Nokia's recently released Lumia 710 is deemed to be the lesser sibling of the Finnish phone manufacturer's first outing with the Windows Phone platform, but that does not mean the Lumia 710 is a performance slouch. No sir, it does have its fair share of pros as you can read in our review, but that does not mean it is the perfect phone. The Nokia Lumia 710 too, has a call behavior problem which has already been reported many times over on Nokia's support forums that claim one simply cannot end calls, despite the other party already having hung up. For example, when the conversation is over, the end call button ends up as unresponsive.

HTC says they're willing to go in any direction to help keep their products fresh and clean.

Report: Samsung Galaxy S III to be just 7mm thick, launch in May

Korea’s Electronic Times News is adding to the speculation surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S III, citing unnamed sources in a report claiming the phone will measure in at just 7mm thick and launch in May. The new flagship device is said to house an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, a Super AMOLED Plus display, and Android 4.0. Previous rumors have suggested the phone will launch with a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 4G LTE. If the latest news is true, all of this power would be packed into a frame measuring about 1.5mm thinner than last year’s Galaxy S II.

Samsung event scheduled for March 22. Galaxy S III could be announced then

Last week, Samsung informed the world that it would not unveil its new Galaxy S III Android smartphone at MWC 2012, but at a later event (for which it didn't provide a date). Now, according to Frandroid, Samsung has a mysterious event scheduled for March 22. There's no way of telling what this is about, but it could very well be about the Galaxy S III. Of course, at the same time the company could unveil something for the French market only (since the invite to the event is in French).

As the successor to the Galaxy S II, the Samsung Galaxy S III will be the company's flagship Android handset of 2012.

It seems that thinness is the new race to the moon for smartphone makers, and Samsung, not to be outdone by Motorola's RAZR XT910 7.1mm waistline, is reportedly aiming at the 7mm milestone with the new Galaxy S III. Surprisingly, Huawei is also in the race with the upcoming Ascend P1 S, which comes in at 6.7mm, and should see a global release in Q2 of this year. Rumors continue that the S III thickness won't be uniform, and it will allegedly have the same camera 'hump' found on the S II.

Verizon and Redbox announce video rental and streaming service to launch later this year

An announcement that Verizon and Redbox will team up to offer consumers a streaming media and Blu-ray/DVD rental service hasn’t done much to expound upon details first rumored last year. The new content distribution service will focus on the power of Verizon’s network, an element of support lacking from Netflix, the media provider the two companies are looking to challenge head-on. What isn’t clear is whether or not the service will be available to those not subscribed to Verizon services, and  which of those Verizon services will be covered.
