Red HTC One heading to Sprint on August 16th?

Red HTC One heading to Sprint on August 16th?

The Red HTC One has been available in the UK for a few weeks now, but it looks like the device may be making its way to the US in roughly three weeks. A leaked Sprint roadmap document lists the Red HTC One with an August 16th release date. Sprint and HTC have yet to release any official comments regarding the availability of the Red HTC One, but it's not too much of a stretch to think that Sprint would carry the device since it already stocks the silver and black models. Pricing for the Red HTC One should come in at $199.99 with a new contract – the same price Sprint is charging for the 32GB HTC One.

Moto X won't be sold in T-Mobile stores

Moto X won't be sold in T-Mobile stores

The Moto X will indeed be available on the big four US carriers. Not all will take the same approach to selling it, however. While AT&T has a temporary exclusive deal to offer Moto Maker customization and Verizon and Sprint appear ready to launch the device through traditional channels, T-Mobile won't stock the device in stores. At least not initially, anyway.
The whole thing is a bit confusing. T-Mobile is more than ready to say the phone will be compatible with their network, but also says customers will only be able to find it via Motorola's site.

Video games usually get a pretty bad rap because there are some who believe that they lead to violence. Of course there are proponents of video games who believe that they have their uses, and while we don't think learning to drive a car by playing video games is the best way to go about it, it looks like it managed to help in an emergency situation. According to a report, a ten year old boy managed to grab the wheel of the car he was in and steered it to safety after his grandmother, the one behind the wheel, suddenly passed out.

Jelly Bean Takes More Than 40% Of The Android Cake Now

Jelly Bean Takes More Than 40% Of The Android Cake Now

It is well worth the effort to pay attention to the number of users who have jumped aboard the Jelly Bean bandwagon, and by this, I mean the combined efforts of Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3, just like how we lump Android 2.3.3 all the way to Android 2.3.7 under the Gingerbread moniker. In fact, the latest figures from the Android Dashboard do point out that the base version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean already takes 34% of the active devices cake, and when you combine it with — singlehandedly surpassing the old guard's 33 percent share of the market.

You know how is it like in the world of professional boxing, where there is always the customary “tale of the tape” before each fight. I guess you can say that the folks over at App Annie had a similar idea when they pitched two behemoths against each other – the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and here we are with the results of this “showdown” of sorts.

True Utility TrueLite Maxi 3W Flashlight review

I must admit that I have not, until this review, really joined the LED flashlight revolution. I do have a pen knife and other little knickknacks with LED lights incorporated into them, but they are not what I would call full-fledged utility flashlights. So getting a chance to review the True Utility TrueLite Maxi 3W is my chance to step into the new LED flashlight age.

Catch Notes dying - will you miss it?

Catch Notes dying - will you miss it?

We all have our very specific ways of taking notes, but it seems 5-10 million of you will need to be changing your methods soon. The popular app Catch Notes will be shutting down. Catch Notes' last day will be August 30th. Users have until then to download their data if they wish to. The Catch Notes team has given you instructions on how to do it, so you don't need to be afraid that you will lose all your notes.

It is sad to see such popular apps and services dying, but what could be causing it? Is an app downloaded 5-10 million times really not able to pull a profit? Catch doesn't go into details.

HTC One for Verizon launch set for August 15th?

HTC One for Verizon launch set for August 15th?

The Verizon HTC One is still nowhere to be found, but new rumors suggest that'll change in just over two weeks' time. According to documents received by Droid-Life, the Verizon HTC One launch date has been set to August 15th. The original date was apparently set for August 1st, but some suggest Verizon pushed it back a couple more weeks. We're not sure of the company's reasoning, but everyone has their own guesses.
The easiest guess to make is that the carrier wants to give more time to push the HTC DROID DNA before it brings in the superior HTC handset.

Should Google go with LG for the 2014 Nexus? [POLL]

The honeymoon period with the new Nexus 7 hasn't exactly expired yet, and folks are already talking about what the 2014 version might entail. Well, one analyst thinks Google could be breaking things off with ASUS and going with a certain South Korean manufacturer for its next rendition. That manufacturer would be LG. The prediction comes from analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo, who seems to have quite the decent track record.
Apparently, LG's major positioning in the display manufacturing market would make the company an ideal match to make Google's next 7-inch wonder.

. Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company and the man that is widely considered to have put America on wheels, would have been 150 years young today. Naturally, there are celebrations at Ford's Dearborn headquarters, and the state of Michigan has declared today, July 30, 2013, Henry Ford Day.
While Ford's flaws are well documented, his institution of the moving assembly line and $5 work day were largely responsible for the middle class explosion in Detroit during the 1910s and 1920s, while vertical integration in his production contributed even further to the affordability of Ford's products.

HTC releases camera app fix after the T-Mobile HTC One OTA update removed HDR functionality

The latest software update for the T-Mobile HTC One may have fixed LTE connectivity issues and improved handset performance, but HTC somehow managed to remove the HDR functionality from the camera app. We're not exactly sure how it happened, but HTC has responded quickly by releasing a camera update for the device which brings back the lost functionality. HTC needs to do little bit of work to ensure a higher standard in quality control with its software updates, but we applaud them for an extremely quick two day turnaround time on the fix.

iPhone 4 Attributed To Surge In iPhone Sales In The UK

The iPhone 4 is two generations old, making it pretty old as far as smartphone technology is concerned, but apparently there is still plenty of appeal left to the device, possibly aided by its lower price tag. This is according to a new sales report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech who reports that during the period of May to June 2013, Apple enjoyed a surge of sales which was largely thanks to the iPhone 4 which managed to catapult Apple's market share in the UK up by 5.2%, putting them at around 30.5% of the British smartphone market.

Hmmm, we were there when Google's $35 Chromecast dongle was announced to the world, and managed to share a demo walkthrough of it for those who were unable to attend the live event. Close to a fortnight ago, we got word that the HTC One mini has already received approval from the good people over at the FCC, and here we are two weeks down the road with press renders of the AT&T-bound HTC One mini spotted. The answer is simple, really, as the press render leak did show off the AT&T name where the carrier name is normally displayed.

Smart Cargo for iPad review

Smart Cargo for iPad review

I have completely replaced a laptop in my life with my iPad. I discovered this about a year into having my first iPad, when I realized the only time I had moved my MacBook Pro from the desk was when I presented, using both it and my iPad at a few meetings. But, when I'm out for the day, I still want to carry along a few things: a charger and cable – just in case; a portable battery pack; a screen cleaning cloth; a portable speaker; and my Square dongle. So, I usually wind up taking a bag along, just as I did with my MacBook Pro, but it's just a much smaller bag.

The bookmobile may be just another extinct wheeled Mastodon to the generation just coming of age. For them, untold reams of information have been always been available in little more than an instant, right in the palms of their hot little hands. There was a time before devices and digital connectivity, though, when those analog masterpieces known as books were how knowledge got around, and bookmobiles served as rolling libraries for many communities. Automotive niche publisher Motorbooks is bringing back the bookmobile with a new twist.

Earlier this month you might recall that GameStop had stopped their pre-orders of the Sony PlayStation 4 console, presumably because they ran out of their allocated stock and did not want to process orders they knew they might not be able to fulfill in a timely manner. Well the good news is that if you still wanted to get your hands on a launch day PS4 console, it looks like GameStop has managed to secure more units as they have reopened their pre-orders for the console, although given how popular the console is, you might want to hurry as stock could diminish pretty fast.

So far we've had quite a few great posts detailing a nice selection of applications – some I'd never tried before.
