LG G Flex Launch Event Is On November 5th

Earlier this week LG announced its much awaited smartphone with a curved display, called LG G Flex. Prior to the announcement, the device had been seen in a number of leaks. LG announced this smartphone a few days after Samsung came out with its very own curved device, the Galaxy Round. It appears that LG intends to launch its device with much fanfare, local reports coming in from Korean media claim that a launch event has been scheduled on November 5th and that invites have already been sent out. LG is yet to reveal the release plans for G Flex, as per reports, the smartphone will first go on sale in the local market by mid-November.

A couple of days back we reported that Apple had acknowledged that a limited number of iPhone 5s devices were suffering from battery related issues due to a manufacturing defect. The issue might cause reduced battery life, longer charge time or even failure to charge at all. The company confirmed that it would be providing replacement phones to those affected by the issue, and the folks at 9to5Mac claim to have heard exactly how this process is going to be carried out. LG Nexus 5 is official, runs Android 4.4 KitKat

The leak storm is finally over, Google has just made the Nexus 5 official. The latest Nexus smartphone is manufactured by LG. It rocks a 4.95" LCD display with 1080p resolution, which adds up to a pixel density of 445 ppi. The good news keeps on coming with the addition of Gorilla Glass 3 for enhanced screen protection.
Inside the Nexus 5 is a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with four Krait 400 cores and Adreno 330 GPU. It's definitely not a slouch with 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat at the driver's seat.

In a traditional Google manner, internal storage options are either 16GB or 32GB with no microSD card slot to be found.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 has been spotted making its way through another Bluetooth SIG certification, and was even glimpsed in AnTuTu benchmark records. We first got a peek of the expected Galaxy Note 12.2 device back in early September. Back then all we knew was that there was an upcoming 12.2-inch slate from Samsung set to sport an Exynos 5 Octa chipset with a 2560 x 1600 pixel display.
Although it was apparently still too early back then for an official announcement at IFA, things have progressed quickly.

ASUS is already selling the new Padfone Infinity 2 in Europe. More specifically, the phone and Padfone Station dock are now available for purchase is Norway. There, the combo is sold for 6295 NOK (€770). This marks the smartphone's debut on European soil, alas the company hasn't shared any official release plans for other countries. The debut of the new Padfone Infinity 2 in Norway though, is a good sign we'll start seeing the device march its way forward to more European markets soon.

Motorola announces Project Ara, an open hardware platform with modular components ala Phonebloks

Was just about to hit the hay for the evening when this came through the wire. Honestly, I'm not even entirely sure I'm not still dreaming in my onesie but here goes. Revealed in a press release just moments ago is Motorola's upcoming open hardware platform dubbed Project Ara. Yes, you heard right. According to Motorola, they want to do to hardware, what Android has done to software by creating an open based modular smartphone platform.

The goal is to have 3rd party developers create pieces of a phone that can be decided upon by the user, not unlike what we saw in the Phonebloks concept we showed you a few weeks ago.

LG G Flex Curved Display Smartphone Officially Introduced

LG's first curved display smartphone ‘G Flex' has just been officially introduced in South Korea. Running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, the handset sports a 6.0-inch 1280 x 720 OLED curved display, a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics, a 2GB RAM, a 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, dual cameras (2.1MP front & 13MP rear), a ‘self-healing' feature that will keep scratches away, volume buttons on the back, NFC, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 3500mAh battery. The G Flex will be commercially available in South Korea starting November, however, there's no word on pricing yet.

Google is yet to reveal when it is going to announce the anxiously awaited Nexus 5 smartphone, let alone when it is going to be available for purchase. The company hasn't rolled out invites for a launch event as yet, though it is expected to make the announcement in the coming days. Apparently one of the largest retailers in the UK, Carphone Warehouse, is sitting on a large stock on Nexus 5 units prior to the launch. The retailer is believed to have as many as 3,000 Nexus 5 units, 1,500 both in black and white, in stock at its Wednesbury warehouse.

Nokia Lumia 1020 seems to be struggling to make a significant impact on the Chinese market. The first hints that its start was less than impressive was the fact that the phone didn't make it among the most popular WP handsets in the last two months. China is the world's biggest smartphone market for mobile phones and the Lumia 1020 premiered there on the insanely price of CNY5,999 - the equivalent of $1000 or €715. If you're in the market for a device with a big screen but don't want to drop the cash for the high-end Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 should do the trick and thanks to a recently leaked press render, courtesy of the ever reliable @evleaks, of the handset, it looks like the phone will be headed for Sprint, although at this point in time there is no word on when the phone will launch (we're hearing that an early November release is possible) or how much it will cost on contract, but given that the phone is priced $530 (street price), we expect it shouldn't cost too much on Sprint.

So we know that Japan Display have recently announced that they have managed to squeeze 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160) into a 12.1" tablet, giving it a pretty decent pixel density of 365PPI. When the Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T was leaked, it revealed that the device would come with what was presumed at that time, a Qi-standard wireless charger built into the device. Unfortunately it was revealed later that not only did AT&T's Lumia 1020 come with only 16GB of default storage, but it also dropped the built-in Qi-standard wireless charging feature.
