ASUS Padfone now available in the US for $860, includes Padfone Station

. The ASUS Padfone is one of the most unique devices out there. Though its specs are nothing special among high-end devices, its multi-functional nature makes the smartphone/tablet very enticing. It is indeed a captivating offer. Many of us have been waiting for it to come to the US. If you are part of that group, it can now be yours for the good $859.50 that Negri Electronics sells it for.

This is the international, imported version. This usually means that the price will be much higher… and it is.

Rolls-Royce opens flagship showroom on Long Island

A modern Rolls-Royce is big. Really big. The standard-wheelbase Phantom is closer to an full-size SUV in size than it is to an ordinary sedan. And the extended-wheelbase model is an astonishing 20 feet long. Hence, Rolls-Royce needs some big showrooms, and the one you see above is its biggest yet in all of North America.

The new Long Island showroom in the town of Jericho, New York has some 9,200 square feet of floor space.

Chameleon Kickstarter campaign crosses threshold, then cancelled and will restart

We've spoken in the past about Chameleon, an innovative new launcher designed for Android tablets, and it's Kickstarter campaign. For those who supported the developers by pledging some money, here's some bad news: a goof-up by the company means that they will now have to restart their entire campaign, right after meeting their $50,000 target. It just happens that those starting Kickstarter campaigns need an Amazon account for receiving payment. For some strange reason, the developer chose to register the Amazon account of an employee while starting the campaign, and now that employee has left the company.

Indian court tells Google and Facebook execs to stop by, have a chat

India and the various powers that be on the Internet have had a bit of a contentious relationship for the past year or so. The primary issue has been censorship, in that the Indian government wants more of it and the giants of the tech world want no part. After originally filing suit against Microsoft, Google and Facebook in December of 2011, the Delhi High Court let Redmond loose from its litigative snare. Unfortunately for the Big G and our pal Zuck, they're still on the hook for failing to block offensive content, particularly that of a religious nature.

The Ultrabooks of Computex 2012

The Ultrabooks of Computex 2012

It was last year that Intel chose Computex, a computer tradeshow in Taiwan, to introduce its Ultrabook concept to the world. Twelve months later, 110-plus models are in the pipeline, which meant the Taipei Convention Center was overrun by skinny, lightweight laptops. Make that skinny, touch-enabled laptops. Between those new Ivy Bridge chips and Microsoft putting the finishing touches on Windows 8, this week's show was nothing if not a five-day-long wedding between two tech giants: almost every device on display here was a vehicle for showing off Microsoft's glossy new OS. At every turn, a celebration of touchscreen notebooks.

Visualized: Stunning long-exposure 'star trail' photo taken from the ISS

Ever wondered what goes on up at the International Space Station. We like to think it's all floating around and eating freeze-dried steak. Astronaut Don Pettit decided to take a break from his no-doubt mundane routine and capture the spectacular image you see above. We say image, it's actually multiple 30-second exposure snaps layered on top of each other. Needless to say the result is both humbling, and hypnotic. Best of all? There's a collection of them, waiting to steal your afternoon with slack-jawed wonderment.

CERN admits faulty kit to blame for speedy neutrinos, says it's all relative

Those pesky neutrinos, they sure did cause a kerfuffle. The scientific community held its collective breath when research published by CERN suggested that the little guys had been caught traveling at an Einstein-defying 3.7 miles per second faster than light. Naturally there was a mixture of doubt and excited disbelief, but everything needed to be triple checked before any paradigms could meet any windows. And alas, it was all to unravel once flaws were identified.

Sony Xperia Mini Pro receives Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update

We are seeing more and more Android-powered smartphones these days that come with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update being released, which is a good thing – after all, who does not want to have the latest and greatest operating system version running on their handsets. The latest candidate in line would be the Sony Xperia Mini Pro, where you will need to have the proprietary PC Companion software installed beforehand prior to accessing this operating system update. I guess there has been no negative reports about this update just yet, so those who have applied the update, how do you find it.

Apple possibly held back by Google for years on iOS' Maps features, might bring turn-by-turn nav to WWDC

The tales of Apple possibly dumping Google Maps as the backend for iOS 6′s Maps app are gathering steam, but we're now learning just how much forethought may have gone into the split. According to the WSJ's favorite tipsters, “people familiar with the matter,” Apple isn't just hoping to spurn Android — it's reacting to push-back it got years earlier. Google supposedly delayed Street View, and blocked Google Maps Navigation outright, as it wasn't getting the limelight for branding and couldn't push in social tracking services that tend to make a privacy-sensitive Apple jittery, like Latitude.

Internet has officially more stars than the universe

Internet has officially more stars than the universe

Just how many addresses does the Internet have. Definitely far more than the number of people on this planet, and in order to cut to the chase, we are looking at more addresses compared to the stars in the universe. Yesterday marked a historical moment in the life of the Internet, as the switchover to the new IPv6 protocol was completed, and that opened up the floodgates for a slew of other IP addresses made available to the masses. CNN says that there are now 340 trillion trillion trillion unique addresses – and if you were to summarize it two words, it would be 340 undecillion.

Cat Scratch Fever. Keeping a vehicle fresh and relevant over a long model cycle is one of any automaker's toughest tasks. There are basically two schools of thought on how to do it: a steady parade of trim-and-tape special editions (Lexus SC 430 Pebble Beach Edition, anyone?) or the more capital-intensive high-performance route.

MotoCzysz e-motorbike crackles past 100MPH at TT Zero for $15,000 prize

Jitters over wet track conditions didn't stop MotoCzysz's Michael Rutter from becoming the first electric motorcycle rider at the Isle of Man's TT Zero to hit 100MPH - aka the fabled "ton". He also snapped up the £10,000 ($15,400) prize offered by the island's government for the achievement, although two other riders also managed to zap the milestone. Being the first to do it was all that counted, though, and after coming close last year, it looks like MotoCzysz's recent doubling up on horsepower seemed to do the trick. Thanks to the boost, Rutter easily cruised past the mark at 104.056MPH.

It wouldn't be Computex without some KIRF Apple products. And what we have today isn't quite a MacBook Air. But it's amazingly close. The THD (Thread Technology Co.)-made clamshell comes complete with an LED-backlit 1366 x 768 LCD, 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 1 gig of DDR3 RAM and 8 gigs of SSD storage.

Explicit consent becomes mandatory with latest 'do not track' proposal, backs Microsoft into the corner

Remember how Microsoft said it'd enable the "do not track" feature by default for all users of Internet Explorer 10. Well, it's not likely to happen - at least from the looks of things. The move caused more than an uproar in the advertising industry, which had agreed to abide by these preferences only if users could, indeed, choose for themselves. With Microsoft's bullish decision to go forward and make this setting default, advertisers argued they'd be left with no choice but to bust the deal wide open and ignore these preferences.

Dynamic touchscreen tech looks to change the mobile world [video]

. At the Society for Information Display's Display Week in Boston, Tactus Technology showcased its next-generation mobile tactile technology, TG Daily reported. Using microfluidic technology, Tactus highlighted how a phone's touchscreen will be able to transform to support a physical keyboard that will recede back into the device once input is complete. Perhaps the best news is that the technology adds no extra thickness to the standard touchscreen display, as it replaces an already existing layer of the display stack.

Matrox DS1 docking station: $249 buys you Thunderbolt but no daisy-chaining

Thunderbolt has leant its air of celebrity to yet another device: the Matrox DS1 docking station, due out this fall for $249. The laptop dock has room for pretty much everything you'd want to plug in when you reach your desk, including DVI, gigabit Ethernet, audio in and out, two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0. All those connections are then funneled into a single Thunderbolt output to your MacBook or Ultrabook. This provides “one cable convenience,” but the lack of an extra port means there's no scope for daisy-chaining Thunderbolt storage or other components you might pick up at some point before 2015.

Between the Raspberry Pi and the new Chromebox, we've been spending more time than usual lately talking about miniature desktops. Until now, though, AMD hasn't really entered the discussion; all of the models we've tested have featured either an ARM chip or Intel processor. So we were intrigued, then, when we found this mini PC hanging out at the company's Computex booth. It's called the LiveBox, and it runs one of AMD's X86-based Fusion chips. Before we get into specifics, though, have a gander at our hands-on photos and check out that funky design.
