Following reports that Tizen open-source OS (co-developed by Samsung and Intel) was scrapped, new information indicates that the project is still very much alive. Indeed, if the below shipping manifest is believed, then developer prototypes of the Tizen-runnning Samsung SM-Z9005 are shipping to developers. How do we know that the SM-Z9005 is indeed a Tizen device.

VW has high hopes for new TGI engines

VW has high hopes for new TGI engines

There's been a subtle, but increasing, push towards cars that run on compressed natural gas over the years. Honda has been the largest proponent, offering its first CNG-powered Civic GX in 1998. And while the take rate has been slow, it's been enough that the Japanese manufacturer has continued production and sales to non-fleet customers. Now, Volkswagen is getting into the game with its TGI engine technology. As Automotive News points out, VW was largely responsible for the diesel revolution of the early 1990s, thanks to its direct-injection turbodiesels.

Next-gen Hyundai Sonata spotted testing near the 'Ring

The sixth-generation Hyundai Sonata helped usher in a stylish era for the previously boring midsize sedan segment. After four years on the market, though, some of the Sonata's rivals are newer and arguably more stylish, so it's not surprising that Hyundai appears to be in the early phases of a redesign for its popular sedan. From what we can see in these spy shots, the overall shape of the Sonata will remain the same – note the roofline and side body creases – but big changes seem to be in store for the rest of the car.

Blue Microphones Nessie USB Microphone review

Blue Microphones Nessie USB Microphone review

At first glance, the Nessie by Blue Microphones  looks like an award one might receive at a music award ceremony because of its impressive stature. But it is named after the mythological Loch Ness monster and resembles it with its “S” curve and long neck silhouette. But it begs the question, does it stand up to be a legend in its own right. The Nessie  is a cardioid pattern microphone with a built-in pop screen and shock mount which aids in worry-free audio recording. Along with these two features, the Nessie has adaptive processing, such as leveling controls and EQ which help provide for improved recordings.

NHTSA still mulling crash tests for recalled Jeeps

NHTSA still mulling crash tests for recalled Jeeps

Well, no one should ever accuse the government of not giving things plenty of thought. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is still debating whether it will retest any of the 1.56 million 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002 to 2007 Libertys that were part of a recall regarding fires after rear-end collisions. And yes, this debate has been going on for over a month. In other news.
The recall dustup started in early June, when Chrysler took the unusual position of refusing a recall request from NHTSA regarding placement of the fuel tank on the effected vehicles.

EISA (the European Imaging and Sound Association) has announced its awards for 2013 - 2014, and some of them are obviously of interest to us. Samsung has won three awards with its Android devices. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini won the European Social Media 2013 - 2014 distinction, because it's "a well-built, fully equipped, affordable smartphone" that comes with numerous "social applications on board from the get-go, including Group Play, ChatON, and S Health.".
As for the larger Galaxy S4, this has been declared the European Green Phone of 2013 - 2014.

Is Detroit killing itself with cars?

Detroit's bankruptcy is still a fresh wound, and it's slowly but surely becoming infected as people start looking for something – anything – to sell to pay the city's debts. While the sale of the Detroit Institute of Art's collection of paintings has been well publicized for those of us that live in the area, another collection is under threat due to the city's lack of funds. Automotive News reports on the state of the Detroit Historical Museum's car collection - a 65-vehicle fleet that includes a 1924 Hupmobile Roadster and a rare, pre-production 1963 Ford Mustang (yes, a 1963 Mustang).

Fiat 500e recalled over possible half shaft separation

The recently launched, all-electric Fiat 500e is already facing its first recall. According to The Detroit News, more than 270 of the EVs are being recalled to replace bolts that secure the vehicles' half shafts. The official number of affected vehicles has not been announced as of this writing, as Chrysler will not inform the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of this issue until it accounts for all problematic 500e models that are currently sitting on dealer lots. Chrysler confirmed to the News that the problem is in no way related to the 500e's electric powertrain, simply the half shafts.

Next-gen Cadillac Escalade debuting October 7 in NYC

Cadillac will unveil the next Escalade in October, at an event in New York City. It will be the sole member of GM's large SUV family to not get a debut at the Texas State Fair, which we don't think is all that surprising, considering the kind of clientele attracted by the big Caddy. The new truck, from the few teaser images and spy shots we've seen, has evolved with the rest of the Cadillac range. We've got a glimpse of its tall, thin headlights, which look like an evolution of what's on the current truck.

Nokia is obviously working on new Windows Phones as you read this. And the company has been rumored countless times to go larger with its handsets before the end of this year. This will be helped by the fact that Microsoft is expected to release the GDR3 update to Windows Phone 8, and this will support quad-core processors and Full HD 1080p screens for the first time ever. Although it may not be Nokia's famed first phablet, the Lumia 825 is going to be big. This device is said to come with a 5.2-inch touchscreen, yet with ‘just' 720p HD resolution.

We sort of understand why the next door neighbor might indulge in a "Ferriero" project (a mid-engine Pontiac Fiero with homemade bodywork resembling a Ferrari), but we simply can't fathom why anybody would pay 40,000 euros for a fake Ferrari built from a front-engine, front-wheel-drive Toyota. An organization in Spain apparently had 17 of these "Ferrotas," three of which were ready to sell over the Internet, when its two Valencia-based shops were raided by police earlier this month, Auto Portal reports. In addition to the fake Ferraris, police also found two fake Aston Martin machines.

The Microsoft Xbox One controller was recently detailed in a new video and one of its features that we know of is that it will play nice with PCs in 2014, but of course with every product, we expected the controller to have undergone several revisions during the course of its design and it seems that some of those features includes smell-o-vision and an integrated screen. This was revealed by Zulfi Alam, Microsoft's head of Xbox accessories during an interview with Kotaku.

. Bobby Locke once said about golf “you drive for show but putt for dough”, an adage that still rings true today. To that end the folks at MxVGolf have introduced their new MxV1 putter. I know there are a lot of putters on the market today, each with its own unique qualities, but the MxV1 has something that most don't have, a putter face that is rounded to the same diameter as the golf ball. The design based on the Newtons Cradle, allows the putter's face to strike the center of the golf ball creating a true roll. The MxV1 is made out of matte black PVD finished stainless steel with a weight of 14.81 ounces (420 grams).

While Google Glass would not be an impulse purchase for most of us (with the definition of "impulse purchase" here meaning anything that can be bought for less than $500 on a whim), this does not mean that the augmented reality pair of glasses is not going to be in demand. No sir, word has it that Google Glass is being lined up to take point in the new "war" that involves augmented reality applications. All right, I will be the first to admit it – the algaculture mask that you see above. It creeps me out, looking as though it was stolen from the house of H.R. After all, fashion in the future tends to be rather minimalistic in nature, such as those that we have seen in Star Trek (their uniforms aren't too hot, if you ask me) and Star Wars, although the Japanese rendition of the future trends in the opposite direction.

Could Rolls-Royce expand business with new models?

Could Rolls-Royce expand business with new models?

Rolls-Royce may be forced to expand its lineup beyond the über-luxury cars gobbled up by the ultra-wealthy jetset, as new competition in the form of the rumored, high-end Mercedes-Benz S-Class could take a slice of the luxury pie from the BMW-owned manufacturer. Automotive News reports that this, along with the combination of BMW's unwillingness to move above the price-point set by the 7-Series and Bentley's expansion into the SUV realm, could force Rolls-Royce's hand. AN is arguing that, as unrealistic as it might sound, Rolls could develop a four-door crossover or shooting brake, but that any such plans are in the earliest of stages.
