3 million Samsung Galaxy Note 2 sold in little over a month

3 million Samsung Galaxy Note 2 sold in little over a month

We're sure that many thought that the original Galaxy Note was a novelty device when it first launched. After all the device seemed a little too big for a handset, but yet too small for a tablet, leading many to dub it a "phablet". As it turns out the Galaxy Note held its own, leading competitors like LG to come up with their own phablet, the Optimus Vu. Well Samsung recently launched the Note's successor, the Galaxy Note 2 and if you think that phablets are still novelties, perhaps some sales figures might change your mind.

Facebook to exchange free WiFi hotspots for check-ins

We're sure that there are many of you guys out there who love to check into locations via Facebook - I know because I am one of them. Well the good news is that Facebook is looking to capitalize on those check-ins, and we say good news because not only will this benefit Facebook, but it will benefit users as these check-ins will be "exchanged" for free WiFi. According to reports, it seems that Facebook is currently trialing some sort of pilot program in which they provide some businesses with "Facebook routers" which provide free WiFi hotspots to customers.

Lotus and Aston Martin to hook up?

Lotus and Aston Martin to hook up?

This has been a tumultuous year for Lotus – to say the least – from the company being sold off back in January to its CEO Dany Bahar being fired in June to its questionable financial status and rumors of the British automaker being sold off to another automaker. First, we heard that Volkswagen was interested in acquiring Lotus and parent company Proton, a rumor that was later dismissed. Now Automobile is reporting that fellow Brit Aston Martin could be in the market to work with or possibly even merge with Lotus.

Following the well-received concept version of the Lingenfelter LTA at SEMA all the way back in 2009, the specialist tuning company has finally brought along a production version of the car this year. Surprise. it's a convertible. Ken Lingenfelter himself says that "overwhelming response after displaying conceptual versions of the LTA at previous SEMA Shows" has forced the company to offer up the real deal. Great news for enthusiasts of retro-themed performance cars, and Camaro fans in general.

While I find it nigh impossible to believe that leaving a typewriter in the room with a bunch of monkeys would eventually see one of the Bard's sonnets typed out (an experiment was run in the past to debunk such an idea), it is not too hard to see us humans are extremely intelligent compared to primates. For instance, when you leave OLPCs with a bunch of Ethiopian kids without any knowledge of it, all it took was just 5 months to hack the device. Hack, as in circumventing security measures of the operating system to customize settings while activating disabled hardware.

Learn where the top bacterial hot spots are in your car

Engineers from the Ford Research and Innovation Center have been working with the University of Michigan to find the grimiest bits inside your car and their results are, well, not all that surprising. Turns out, the most microbe-infested parts of our cars' interiors are the same spots we touch the most. The team took samples from 10 locations in employees' cars including steering wheels, radio buttons, shift knobs, and window switches. "Our findings suggest car interiors are complex ecosystems that house trillions of diverse microorganisms interacting with each other, with humans, and with their environment," says Dr.

Now that the bell has rung to signal the end of Q3 2012, Ford is standing in the ring with both hands in the air like Rocky: The company's overall profit of $1.63 billion for the last three months is nearly equal to its entire 2011 total of $1.94B. Those numbers come thank to the record-breaking pretax operating profit in North America of $2.33B on revenues of $19.5B, the third straight quarter that The Blue Oval has crossed the two-billion mark. Customers are paying more, on average, for Ford vehicles, another contributor to the company maintaining double-digit profit margins on its products. True, there are a couple of bruises.

Sprint's latest financials show that while the network is slowly stemming the flow of cash from its veins, it's not quite there in terms of turning a profit. The country's third biggest carrier suffered a $767 million net loss and an operating loss of $231 million - much less than the $629 million operating loss it had in Q2, but on-par with the $208 million lost in the same period last year. The business did manage to bring in total revenues of $8.8 billion, but had to take a hit on a $397 million write-down on costs related to Network Vision and the continued pain of the Nextel shutdown.

Here we are with yet another handset from Huawei right after the Honor 2 announcement – it does seem as though we are dealing with plenty of sequels here this time around. The Huawei Ascend D2 could probably be the poor man's version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, considering how it is thrust into the phablet category with its 5-inch touchscreen display at HD resolution. Apart from that, the Huawei Ascend D2 is no slouch underneath the hood, considering how it carries a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, with a rather beefy 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter for your video call needs.

New reports say that that three European automakers have registered their opposition to a loan deal that PSA/Peugeot-Citroën is working on with the French government. Peugeot's finance arm, Banque PSA Finance, is struggling with its debts and has been downgraded by Moody's to its lowest investment-grade classification, one step above junk. This makes it more expensive for a potential buyer to finance a car through Peugeot.

There are the right ways to get noticed by football scouts and there are the wrong ways. Performing life-threatening car stunts to show your skills are definitely in the latter category, but Bladimir Barreto, 19, of Palm Bay, Florida, decided that videotaping himself jumping over a moving car was an appropriate way to display his vertical jump to college recruiters. Instead of landing a spot on a college football team, though, Barreto landed himself in the hospital with serious injuries.
