Motorola files patent for smartwatch with multiple displays, knows when you're looking at it

The growing wearable computing trend doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Motorola and Sony both took early stabs with smartwatch-like devices, but both failed to reach mainstream success for the companies. Doesn't look like that's about to stop Motorola. Today, a newly published Motorola patent may reveal the company's interest in yet another smartwatch device.

New NASCAR tire tech to debut in Atlanta this weekend

New NASCAR tire tech to debut in Atlanta this weekend

Aside from the antics of the Busch brothers and Tony Stewart's uncensored comments, some of the biggest controversies in NASCAR are directed at the tires used on the cars. Goodyear can't do anything about Kurt, Kyle or Tony, but it is looking improve the quality of its rubber by introducing a new type of racing tires for this weekend's event at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Developed from the same technology behind Goodyear's Assurance TripleTred passenger tire, the new Multi-Zone Tread Technology debuting in NASCAR uses multiple rubber compounds in the hopes of optimizing performance, safety and durability.

Driving the million-mile Porsche 356

Driving the million-mile Porsche 356

Maybe you've seen or heard about the Porsche 356 with almost one-million miles (though it doesn't look like it), but Petrolicious finally has produced a video to show us what it's like to drive the 982,000-mile car. Guy Newmark's beautiful, dark-blue 1964 356C looks great in motion - much better than in photos - and serves to remind us not only what meticulous car care can do for old classics, but that old Porsches were built to last. So how fastidious is Newmark about maintaining it.

Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Review

Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Review

Samsung didn't just release a 10.1-inch version of its Galaxy Tab 3 as they released their latest tablet in an 8.0 and 7.0 version. Along with the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 3 we were lent for our review, Samsung also supplied us with the 8-inch version. Both tablets have many similarities, but ultimately, we wanted to treat both products as their own version considering how many people would be looking at either Galaxy Tab 3 to potentially purchase. One of the most obvious differences between the 10.1-inch and 8.0-inch variants are its size.

Toyota drops detail about 414-hp Hybrid-R concept powertrain

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept has been teased already, offering up little glimpses and details of the Frankfurt-bound vehicle. And while those few, shadowy shots have been great, we've really wanted to know how this hatchback would deliver its promised 400-plus horsepower. Under hood sits a 1.6-liter, race-derived, direct-injection, turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the front wheels. Sounds peachy, but with 414 horsepower splashed across the page, we're going to need something more than a 1.6-liter, turbo four.

Nikon D5300 And D610 Rumored For Announcement

Photographers looking for entry-level Nikon DSLR cameras might be interested to learn that according to a new rumor by Nikon Rumors, they have learnt that Nikon could be prepping a pair of entry-level DSLRs that will be sort of like a successor to the respective models. Nikon Rumors has learnt that the two cameras in question are the D5300 and the D610. The D5300 is expected to be an improvement over the D5200, although exactly what sort of improvements we are looking at remains unknown, but perhaps WiFi or GPS functionality could be one of them (speculation at this point).

Affordable Galaxy Note 3 Model Rumored

Its no secret anymore that Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is going to be unveiled next week. Samsung has already confirmed it, but it hasn't confirmed if it will be launching two different models of it's new phablet. Rumor has it that the company might offer an affordable model of the Galaxy Note 3, one that has a LCD display and an 8 megapixel camera. The flagship or premium Galaxy Note 3 model is rumored to have a AMOLED display and a 13 megapixel camera. No other differences are rumored, so if this model does come out, it wouldn't exactly be a “mini” version of Samsung's new phablet.

The company hasn't officially released this smartphone in the U.S., even though it is available for purchase here through unofficial channels. Recently benchmarks of an unreleased ASUS PadFone Infinity A86 were spotted which hinted at the possibility of a Snapdragon 800 powered model. It is believed that the company has delayed PadFone Infinity U.S.

Hyundai, Kia and U of M studying 'highway hypnosis'

Next up on the hot-button list of things that can kill you behind the wheel: "highway hypnosis." That's the zombie-like, autopilot phase you get into on a long highway drive when there isn't much to distract you, like curves or traffic. Digging further into what it is and how to combat it, Hyundai-Kia engineers and the University of Michigan are commencing a study that will measure brainwave activity in order to track the body's slide into highway hypnosis. We're not sure how much overlap this has with Mercedes-Benz's Attention Assist, which tracks more than 70 in-car parameters to determine when you're not focused on the road anymore.

Battroborgs: A New Toy To Keep Your Kids Occupied

Toy companies do have a rather difficult task on hand, where they will need to churn out a new kind of toy, one after another from year to year so that kids will always have something new and exciting to look forward to. Of course, some of these toys and games do end up as classics, but those are far and few in between. How about introducing an electronic update of the old Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots toy. This is what the Battroborgs are all about, where it will be accompanied by a free Battroborg Trainer app which will depict various animations that make it seem as though the Battroborgs are "alive".

As much as we try to live a life free of paper, you're going to come across a time in your life where you absolutely need a printer to fill out paperwork, print out customized greeting cards, or to print out incriminating evidence for later use. Printers are a dime a dozen these days, which is why if you're going to purchase one, you might as well go for an eco-friendly printer. Samsung has announced they're in the process of considering one of three designs for its eco-friendly printer, which they expect to become an actual finished product.

Sony changes form and future of mirrorless cameras plus three new lenses

Sony changes form and future of mirrorless cameras plus three new lenses

A New Sony DSLR camera was announced today – but hold on, it only "looks" like a DSLR.  The Sony A3000 is actually an E-mount mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera cloaked as a DSLR.  If you want a mirrorless that has a wrap-your-fingers-around proper DSLR-type handgrip, this might be an interesting choice.  The specs look pretty good, but definitely shout strictly entry-level lightweight body.  One of the biggest advantages I see for this Sony is the remarkably low price tag of $399.  Yep, $399.  If the image quality pans out, Sony could make a real dent in the entry level DSLR market.

Googler squashes Google Glass $300 pricing and Best Buy availability rumors

Killing 2 birds with a single stone, Chris Dale, a Googler working on the Google Glass communications team, decided to set the record straight on 2 rumors buzzing around the blogosphere last week. The first rumor (reported here), suggested that Glass could be priced at a fairly reasonable $300 once finally made available for the public, a stark contrast to current $1,500 pricing of the Explorer Edition only available by invite. The second rumor (reported here) discussed the possibility of Google renting out large retail spaces at Best Buy for Glass fittings and sales.

Mike Tyson Finally Plays Punch-Out!! [Video]

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. is a video game that will always be considered a huge influence to many gamers as not only was it one of the first sports games to be published on the NES, but it also did an amazing job at tweaking the difficulty ever so slightly so each new boxer becomes just a bit more difficult. If there's one thing we can't believe, it's the fact Mike Tyson has never played his own game, that is, until recently. When Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was released, Mike Tyson was 21 and just a tad busy with his boxing career to check out the video game for himself.

Help your child (or yourself) conquer a fear of medical injections by removing the pain

Help your child (or yourself) conquer a fear of medical injections by removing the pain

When my daughter was much younger, she had to suffer through a lot of allergy testing and allergy injections (sometimes as many as three a week).  Because this testing started when she was barely a year old, you can imagine she quickly developed a fear of needles because of the pain of the procedures.  I wish Buzzy had been around then to help her deal with her years of allergy treatments.  Buzzy is a cute little bee-shaped device that disrupts signals from the nerves that transmit pain sensations and helps reduce the fear of getting injections or other procedures that utilize needles.  It was developed by Dr.

Rage Comet R is a supercar for the road, dirt and sky

Rage Comet R is a supercar for the road, dirt and sky

In a perfect world, every vehicle would do everything well. In reality, the Ford SVT Raptor will tear up desert landscapes like no other production truck, but it will also struggle to grip the tarmac at a racetrack. In the same vein, it would be foolish to take a Porsche 911 GT3 dune jumping. The folks at Rage beg to differ and made a vehicle that they claim is as good on a racetrack as it is off-road: the Comet R (R200RT).
XCAR recently drove the Comet R to see if it really is the dual-nature beast Rage claims it is, and it didn't disappoint. First off, it's fast.

Electronics manufacturer OPPO is one of a few smartphone makers out of China who's quality Android hardware has helped make a name for themselves in other parts of the world. You may remember when the Oppo Finder (at the time, the world's thinnest smartphone) made headlines after it was demonstrated that the device's construction was so solid, it was able to pound nails into a wood plank, while emerging from the onslaught completely unscathed. At the tail end of last year, the Oppo Find 5 was not only announced for China, but the company later provided a carrier unlocked international model that was met with warm reviews.

Knit VW New Beetle Convertible is a real stitch

Knit VW New Beetle Convertible is a real stitch

Well, now we've really seen everything. At the ninth Volkswagen Sunshine Tour, an annual gathering of thousands of Beetle lovers, the "most beautiful beach Beetle of the Year" award went to this New Beetle Convertible enrobed in 40 kilograms – that's about 88 pounds – of colorful, knitted wool. According to VW's press release, it took Marthe and Magnus Schwarz, who met at a previous Sunshine Tour (where else?), seven months to create their unique work of stitchery. As you can see in the photo above, Marthe even went the extra mile by knitting her husband a special beard for the occasion.

Peugeot reveals Le Mans-derived 208 Hybrid FE prototype

You can't leave a team of racing engineers sitting still for too long. They need something to keep them busy. Just ask the guys at Toyota or Peugeot. Toyota shut down its Formula One program in 2009 and didn't get to Le Mans until last year, filling the vacuum left by Peugeot's departure at the end of the previous season. In the meantime, the engineers at Toyota Motorsport GmbH developed the TMG Sports 650. Peugeot Sport had a similar lull after shuttering its LMP1 program before it launched Sebastien Loeb's 208 T16 Pikes Peak challenger this summer.
