TMG's super Lexus LS Sports 650 gets track tested

The people at Toyota Motorsport GmbH have been responsible for the Japanese automaker's motorsports efforts since the 1970s, but since Toyota pulled out of Formula One after the 2009 season, the tuning shop has been developing a super sedan based on the Lexus LS called the Sports 650. Details on TMG's first road car have been scarce, but XCAR was recently invited to drive the 641-horsepower Lexus on track. Here's what we know: the Sports 650 has enough power to sprint to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, tops out at 199 mph, weighs over two tons and utilizes LFA brakes. Oh, and its twin-turbo V8 bellows like an AMG V8.

VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine

Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems. And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim.

Sony Xperia Z1 leaks via an EE UK brochure

Sony Xperia Z1, previously known as Honami, leaks once again ahead of tomorrow's announcement. This time we get to see its face on a printed upcoming brochure of the UK's EE carrier. The leaked brochure reveals the carrier's pre-order campaign kickoff. Supposedly, you will get a free Sony SmartWatch 2 if you place your order with EE.

There is no new information about the Xperia Z1 itself.

Google Glass app store could arrive in 2014 along with public release

If you've been following the rumor mill, it's beginning to look more and more like the public release of Google Glass wont be available until sometime next year. While never officially announced, Google's own Sergey Brin was once quoted as saying he'd like to see Glass released as early as this year – so we remained hopeful. More recently, Computerworld was told from one of their insiders that the new target was sometime in 2014 and now, a new report from the New York Times is corroborating that information.

Apple will hold a second iPhone event on September 11 in China

Apple sent out invites for its iPhone unveiling event yesterday, scheduled for September 10. Chinese media, however, is getting different invites for the following day – it seems that Tim Cook's negotiations with China Mobile's chairman have paid off. China Mobile is the world's biggest carrier with 740 million subscribers and yet Apple had no deal with it, having partnered only with China's second and third carriers. The issue was with China Mobile's non-standard 3G and 4G tech, which was not supported by the chipsets Apple was using.

VW boss Piëch denies plans to step down

Reports by German newspaper Handelsblatt claimed that sources close to Volkswagen's chairman and former CEO Ferdinand Piëch have said that the 76-year-old chairman will step down amidst health problems, but VW is denying the reports, according to Reuters. A VW spokeswoman said, "Dr. Piëch is in the best of health and will remain supervisory board chairman of Volkswagen for a long time.".
