The Iguana 29 is a $290,000 amphibious tank

There's a vehicle for you if you have reoccurring nightmares about uncertain river crossings in the classic computer game Oregon Trail. The Iguana 29 is an amphibious vehicle designed to slowly go where no boat has gone before. At the push of a button, the craft can lower two tank treads to pull itself across land at around five miles per hour, or about a quarter of the speed of the average automotive journalist shuffling his way to an open bar. So, it's not quick, but the machine could be incredibly useful in areas with exaggerated tides where docking your craft can be a hassle.

ZTE's no small company by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still largely an unknown in the US. The phone manufacturer has been focused on selling lower-end devices in the prepaid market - often with carrier-specific branding - but is now hoping to steer the ship in a different direction. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, North American president Lixin Cheng mentioned the company intends to bring LTE-capable high-end smartphones to the US at some point in the middle of next year.

Samsung promotes DRAM chief to vice chairman, implements 'top-two' structure

Samsung reshuffled its managerial hierarchy yesterday, promoting Kwon Oh Hyun, head of its DRAM operations, to vice chairman. Kwon, who successfully steered Samsung through an industry-wide price slump last quarter, will continue to head up the company's chip and LCD divisions, while working alongside Jung Yeon Joo - the former CEO of Samsung C&T Corporation who was also promoted to vice chairman. The restoration of this "top-two" structure was one of several moves the Samsung Group made on Wednesday, including the announcement of six new presidents. Kwon's advancement, however, is certainly the most noteworthy.

AT&T is bringing its LTE magic to its subscribers in New York by the end of this year. The official confirmation came from the company's senior executive vice president and CFO John Stephens. The carrier vowed to bring LTE coverage to 70 million users in the US by the end of this month and adding the country's most populous city to the list of covered areas seems like the most logical move.
AT&T still has plenty of catching up to do, as Verizon started building its LTE network almost a full year earlier.

Apple prides itself on its brand value. But in China, the technology giant may be forced to sell their iPad tablets under a new moniker. The world's largest technology company lost an ongoing court battle to use their iPad trademark, after claiming that a Chinese company was infringing on the name with their own product. The patent court in Shenzen, China ruled in favour of Proview Technology, who had previously trademarked the name 'iPad' in 2000.

iBooks update brings nighttime reading theme

My parents have always told me that reading in the dark or under poor lighting conditions is not recommended, and doing so for too often might see me ending up with a pair of glasses. Needless to say, youthful exuberance coupled with a sense of throwing caution to the wind has resulted in the wisdom of the elders proven right yet again, where I need a pair of prescription glasses to see what I'm typing. The folks at Apple must have thought about this, which is why they have issued the iBook app update by bumping it up to version 1.5, introducing a nighttime reading theme as well as a full-screen mode.
