A Sprint bound, Motorola QWERTY slider leaks out

It looks like Sprint Wireless will be the QWERTY slider kingdom capital this Fall, folks. A yet to be announced Motorola device, sporting the aforementioned hardware has leaked out in a blurry image, thus joining the company of the LG handset which got spotted for the same carrier not so long ago. Details on the phone's specifications are practically non-existent. It is clear that the device runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but don't let the on-screen Android buttons deceive you - there is a serious likelihood that they will not make it to the retail version.

Would-be Dropbox users who want to lean on the cloud storage service's Public folder, heads-up: when July comes to a close, new accounts won't get that common storage pool. That's not to say it's the end of sharing, however. The company's recent sharing link support is still very much in effect to let groups share files or whole folders between each other.

Lancia contemplating Chrysler 300-based Thema coupe?

Lancia contemplating Chrysler 300-based Thema coupe?

Head overseas and you may run into a Chrysler 300 wearing a distinctly foreign badge: that of Lancia. The awkward stepchild of the Fiat group rebadges Chrysler vehicles as their own and gives them nameplates from their own back-catalog. Lancia calls its rebadged 300 the Thema, but aside from the handle, it's pretty much the same. But could Chrysler's Italian cousin prompt the development of a coupe version.
According to the latest churn of the rumormill, yes, it could. Chrysler has already used the platform for the two-door Dodge Challenger, a vehicle that isn't officially offered in Europe.

Macbook Pro 15 with Retina Display Unboxing [Video]

The new Macbook Pro 15 with Retina display has landed in our office and here's the unboxing video. Overall, it is a much thinner Macbook Pro 15, thanks to the departure of the optical drive. Those who need to read CD/DVDs can still use an external one, whether it is from Apple or not (we used to have a USB Samsung optical drive for the Macbook Air). We'll get to the benchmarks soon enough, but you can expect some CPU boost, and the GPU is pretty decent, so in theory, mid-range gaming and most 2D applications should work great. The star of the show is really the high-density display.

Apple files for a patent on an iPhone with swappable lenses, picky mobile photographers rejoice

Taking phone photography seriously is certainly possible. Short of tacking on a slightly ludicrous add-on case, however, you're normally stuck with whatever lens the phone designer deems fit. Unless Apple uses technology from a very out-of-left-field patent application, that is. The invention would make an iPhone's back panel removable so that owners could swap out lenses like they would with a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. Apple has even raised the possibility of a panel with two lenses built-in at opposite corners: to switch to a telephoto lens or a different filter, you'd only need to flip the panel around to use the additional glass.

Microsoft patent app wants SMS-to-spreadsheet, so you can Excel while you excel

If you're too busy racking up commissions to submit your expense report, a Microsoft patent application might let you text that steak-dinner-schmoozefest straight to a spreadsheet in accounting. That's one use that pops to mind for the proposed invention, which which could permit text and multimedia messages to interact with Redmond's Office suite. It could then process that info and redirect the message or send you a reply, confirming your shenanigans. Now, how to justify that $1,500 bottle of cognac.

Bob Lutz has put Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's numerous past comments about the automotive bailout behind him, according to Automotive News. During a recent episode of "The Kudlow Report" on CNBC, the former auto executive made it clear he now backs Romney for the 2012 presidential election, saying "[Romney] now says he was totally in favor of [the bailout] and suggested it.". In 2008, Romney wrote an op-ed for The New York Times titled, "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." The piece adamantly opposed the government bailout in favor of a managed bankruptcy for both General Motors and Chyrsler.

Did Apple forget to tell automakers about the new Siri button?

Apple expects nine different carmakers to begin including a "Siri button" on their steering wheels within the next 12 months, the company announced this week. Of course, the news came as a surprise to some of the carmakers, according to Business Insider. After Apple announced plans to further integrate it's Siri voice recognition software to a button on the steering wheel, some carmakers said they were unaware of those plans.

Audi told Fast Company, which contacted all nine carmakers mentioned by Apple, that it was not sure if the project could be completed in a year.

If you rely heavily Twitter for your source of news and information, you will be pleased to learn that Twitter has recently updated its "expanded tweets" feature. This allows users to see more information at one glance and gives them a brief overview as to what they can expect, instead of having them click a link that takes them straight to the article, video or audio clip itself. For example in the picture above, a tweet by a publication such as the New York Times will not only provide a link to the article, but allows users to preview the article and even provides the Twitter account of the writer/publisher themselves.

When iOS 6 was announced at WWDC a couple of days ago, safe to say only the major features were highlighted which means that there are probably a ton of other neat features that have yet to be discovered, like the color changing status bars and the recently discovered ability to receive both government AMBER and emergency alerts automatically on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. These services appear to be limited to the US for now, although that's not surprising given that the AMBER alert is a US emergency alert.

We see a lot of "world's largest" claims around here. And this isn't even the first one for a telescope. But this one is actually for the world's biggest optical telescope, and that somehow makes it easier to grasp the magnitude of. At a cost of 1.1 billion Euros, it doesn't come cheap, but the European Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) has just been given the go ahead - and truly lives up to its name. The mirror it uses will measure 39 meters across (four times that of typical mirrors,) comprising nearly 800 hexagonal pieces, and will swallow 12 times more light than the current biggest in existence.
