More 2014 Mazda6 teasers released

More 2014 Mazda6 teasers released

Just hours ago, a high-resolution teaser shot of the 2014 Mazda6 leaked onto the internet, giving us a very clear glimpse of the new sedan's front fascia. Not to be outdone, Mazda has responded by releasing three more images of the new car, which we've learned will officially debut at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show next month. After looking at the new quartet of images, along with the series of teaser videos – all one, two, three, four of them – there's little to be left to the imagination when it comes to the design of Mazda's rakish new sedan. From what we can see so far, this thing looks mighty handsome.

Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC arrives on Mac and PC, Xbox 360 version gets delayed

Valve has finally let loose the Kraken – nay, they have released the highly anticipated Cold Stream DLC pack for Left 4 Dead 2, where it will work with both the Mac and PC platforms. As for Xbox 360 owners, you will need to exercise this zen-like state known as "patience" as it has been delayed. According to the development team, "We are working with Microsoft on a release schedule. We don't have an ETA yet but we hope to have it out soon." I have come to realize that the word "soon" is hugely relative, so hopefully things will speed up to cater for the Xbox 360 gaming groupies.

Security researchers find new wafer-thin ATM card skimmers in use

ATM card skimming is hardly a new activity, and neither are card skimmers that continue to get smaller and more discreet. As Brian Krebs of the Krebs on Security blog reports, though, a new development out of Europe has now crossed a key, and potentially troublesome threshold. The European ATM Security Team (otherwise known as EAST) has discovered a new type of wafer-thin card skimmer in use in at least one unnamed European country that's small enough to fit directly in the ATM's card slot - that's as opposed to most current skimmers that can be well-disguised but generally sit on top of the card slot.

Apple secures multitouch-related patent dating back to 1995 from inventor

Apple has come into possession of a number of patents owned by Canadian inventor Timothy R. Pryor in recent years (see the More Coverage link below for a few examples), and it's just today been granted another that's particularly interesting. Described rather broadly as a "method for providing human input to a computer," the patent (filed in July of 2009) is a continuation of one dating all the way back to 1995, and appears to cover some fairly basic multitouch-related functions.

Comcast doubles broadband speeds 'in certain markets,' launches 305Mbps Xfinity Platinum service

Comcast has just done the deed - following a rumor on the matter, it's launching 305Mbps (down) / 65Mbps (up) Xfinity Platinum internet service in the highly populated Northeast division of the United States. For those who've been around a while, you may remember a time where one would weep upon finding out that Verizon's FiOS simply wasn't available at a desired location. Now, however, Comcast is doing its darnedest to rival fiber-to-the-home options with blisteringly fast cable service.

GoSmart Announces New Precise Capacitive Styluses for Your Favorite Touch Screen Device

There are 100′s, if not 1000′s of different capacitive styluses on the market, but they all seem to fall into 3 categories. There are rubber tipped styluses like the Targus Stylus. Paint brush styluses like the Nomad Stylus and then there are disc tipped styluses like the Adonit. GoSmart‘s new 200 and 300 Series Styluses fall into the last category. The 300 series stylus features a rocket ship shape with a finned cap that doubles as a stand when the stylus isn't being used. The 200 series stylus also features a cap, but it has a traditional straight pen shape.

Hot on the heels of HTC confirming a Jelly Bean upgrade for select handsets, ASUS released a statement (pasted after the break) assuring tablet owners that all of the company's new tablets, at least, will be upgraded to Android 4.1. So far, the outfit is committing to updating the Transformer Prime, along with the Transformer Pads TF300 and TF700. Though ASUS is careful to say it's considering other devices, it's still not promising to upgrade the original Transformer or Eee Pad Slider.

Nielsen to use watermarks to enhance local channel rating accuracy

Nielsen to use watermarks to enhance local channel rating accuracy

While we're watching our favorite shows in HD, it's easy to forget that they live and die by ratings, and those ratings aren't always collected with the latest technology. In an effort to improve the sample size and accuracy of ratings for local TV channels, Nielsen is starting to roll out a hybrid technology consisting of watermarks and return data from supporting pay-TV provider's set-top boxes, like DirecTV and Charter. The first three markets to get the upgrade are St. Louis, Dallas and Charlotte, with 17 yet to be announced markets to follow in 2013, and finally, the remaining 190 about two years after that.

ASUS loads P8Z77V with USB attached SCSI, beats Windows 8 to the punch

There's no doubt about it, USB 3.0 is wicked fast when pitted against its predecessors — but the ancient bulk-only transport protocol it uses is showing its age. Some newer external drives hope sidestep the old protocol by supporting a new one: UASP, or, USB attached SCSI. As its name implies, the modern protocol leverages the SCSI command set to reduce latency, enable queue functions and improve performance for compatible drives. Windows 8 will ship with UASP drivers baked in, but the protocol is already available in the form of third-party controllers and drivers.

Human head gumball machine grosses me out

Human head gumball machine grosses me out

Now this is a gumball machine from the depths of imagination of Thomas Kuebler who has clearly watched far too many zombie flicks for his own good. It does look extremely realistic, although I would say that this is closer to one of those preserved heads that headhunting tribes keep as trophies than a full blown zombie who deserves Project Alice to bust open a can of whoop-ass. After all, the visually decomposing human head that you see here is a gumball machine, where all the delicious gumballs can be seen through the transparent glass at where the brain is supposed to be.

Despite what you might be thinking, what you're seeing above isn't a pair of sleek and very polished viking horns - instead, you're gawking at an eccentric set of Bluetooth speakers. Adequately dubbed "Spinnaker," the rig measures in at a whopping 16.5 inches in height, and Edifier says the uncommon figure is specifically designed to "project sound toward the listener with front facing tweeters and mid-range drivers." The Spinnaker's compatible with nearly every Bluetooth-equipped (2.1+ EDR) device you may have laying around, but you'll have to shell out a mighty $350 if you're planning on adding these beasts to your sound setup.

Fake jellyfish made from rat cells have a place in our hearts (video)

There's a whole sea of jellyfish out there ready to sting indiscriminately. So, why do we keep trying to make them. Scientists from Harvard and Caltech have a pretty good reason for creating fake jellies - they hope to mend broken hearts by adapting their 'pumping' style of movement. Much like our own vital organ, the creatures are a mass of muscle adept at shifting fluid, meaning the research has several medical applications, such as bioengineered pacemakers for busted tickers.

Doing something else while driving at the same time can be a dangerous – even if it's as simple as changing the radio station or adjusting the temperature of the vehicle. Well, it looks like the folks over at Harman have come up with a solution. Using an infra-red sensor that's mounted on the dashboard of the vehicle that can recognize facial expressions, drivers perform simple gestures while still driving safely. The sensor works with a computer that is installed inside the car to translate the gestures into commands for the vehicle.

. A game of cat and mouse between Apple (AAPL) and a Russian hacker is now over - sort of. Russian hacker Alexey Borodin showed the world how to bypass Apple's in-app purchase system on iOS earlier this month, allowing unscrupulous iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to steal in-app purchases in any app that didn't implement a few lines of code to thwart the attack. Apple plugged the hole, Borodin bypassed the fix, and the all-too-familiar dance between hacker and technology company ensued. In a brief post on his blog, however, Borodin said he's calling it quits because a recent fix implemented by Apple cannot by bypassed.

CEO Paul Jacobs instead wants the company licensing out the butterfly-inspired screens to interested companies and will limit its direct commercialization to "certain" devices.

Reversible Jacket For Both Warm Or Cold Weather

Reversible Jacket For Both Warm Or Cold Weather

There are jackets that are designed to protect the wearer mostly from the cold. Not many of them are designed to try and keep the heat out. And it's pretty rare for a jacket to be designed to do both, except for the Polychromelab's line of reversible jackets. Austrian company Polychrome AB has developed a type of reversible jacket that can work for all seasons. The reversible jacket makes use of the patented Polychromelab fabric that works both to keep the wearer warm or cool, depending on what side you wear it on. It comes with a waterproof and breathable fabric that comes in three layers.

Hitting The Right Notes While Missing The Beat. Let's face it: The BMW 3 Series is more vulnerable now than it has been in over two decades. The poster child of the sports sedan community is currently in the throes of some unpleasant growing pains as it tries to balance efficiency, mass-market appeal and the machine's impressive heritage. Though lighter than its predecessor, the F30 feels heavier from behind the wheel, thanks in part to suspension tuning designed to coddle first and satisfy second. The German wunderkind is larger in every direction with more interior room.

It is safe to assume that the majority of Diablo 3 players aren't too happy with Blizzard's always-on model when it comes to the game. While Blizzard claims it was done so in order to help combat piracy amongst other things, it is certainly most inconvenient especially for players with slow internet connection or who are travelling and do not have internet access, but want to get in some gaming time.

The early impressions do not seem unflattering but they don't seem to excite us either.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is selling well here in the States. So well, in fact, that the compact utility is barely sticking on showroom lots. Dealers are reportedly struggling to get an Evoque in the hands of every customer that wants the Beckham-inspired luxury 'ute. They need more supply to meet the demands of potential customers, lest Land Rover lose said customer to a competitor.
High demand is a good problem to have, but Land Rover would prefer to meet demand and reap the financial benefits. Fully aware of the supply issues both in the U.S.

What do we even say about a name like Quoris. (Well, other than “What the heck?”) With Kia calling its new flagship, rear-drive sedan the K9 in the Korean domestic market and the Quoris in the rest of the world, we think this promising car has the dubious distinction of having not one, but two of the worst names ever given to a new model. Kia says Quoris is “derived from the English words ‘core' and ‘quality,'” but something was clearly lost in translation here, as Quoris is not only difficult to pronounce, it is utterly meaningless.
