Samsung Galaxy S II finally lands in the States, Verizon not in the party

Samsung Galaxy S II finally lands in the States, Verizon not in the party

It's been a long, long time coming but the follow-on to Samsung's extremely successful Galaxy S smartphone has finally been introduced to the United States. Kind of ironic isn't it that Apple didn't manage to stop them. The Samsung Galaxy S2 was announced way back in February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. A few months later, in May, the phone started hitting store shelves around the world. The phone hit Canada in July and is available in over 100 countries. However, the U.S. is not one of those countries. Not yet, at least.

Last night, at an event in New York City, Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S2 in the States.

Makayama Movie Mount for iPad 2

Makayama Movie Mount for iPad 2

Given how the iPhone 4's camera is so popular, it's weird that the iPad 2 did not feature a camera that is just as good. While there is without doubt that people use the iPad 2 for photographs and movies, we don't think that the overall quality would end up seeing iPad 2 made movies in our cinemas as blockbuster hits, but company Makayama has decided that there is a market for dedicated iPad 2 movie mounts and has announced their Movie Mount. As the name implies, the Movie Mount is a mount that allows you to hook up your iPad 2 and shoot movies. Granted you can always hold the iPad 2 to film your movies but the mount will add stability.

Car armor company boss stands behind his work, lets employee shoot at him with AK-47

For all of its faults, the AK-47 remains an impressive piece of machinery. While other assault rifles have come and gone over the past 62 years, the Soviet Union's greatest contribution to modern warfare continues to liberate the oppressed and strike fear into the hearts of gun control groups everywhere. While no one knows exactly how many of the rifles have been produced, estimates put the number of genuine AK-47 models at around 75 million units with another 100 million weapons bearing a similar design. Its ammunition, the 7.62x39 round, is plentiful, cheap and insanely powerful.

Samsung Epic 4G Touch is the only Galaxy S II with an LED notification light

Remember the classic clamshell Motorola phones that came with an LED notification light out in front, letting you know just which caller group has called or text messaged you with but a glance, simply because the LED light will appear in a different color. Well, Samsung takes a page out of Motorola book with their Epic Touch 4G, which is the only model from the Galaxy S II range in the US that will have an LED notification light.

Now you can follow your dog from the comfort of the nearest browser. Photo credit PetTracker. Photocopied “lost dog”" flyers taped to lampposts and stapled to telegraph poles are so 20th century. The modern day approach to a mislaid canine is GPS tracking. Specifically, the Tagg Pet Tracker.

The Tagg is a collar-mounted tag with GPS and cellular radios. Using it, you can track pooch on a map and find him, wherever he may have wandered. And if he strays from a preset “Tagg zone,” you'll be notified immediately so you can go grab him before he digs up the neighbor's petunias.

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid merges 100GB SSD with 1TB HDD for $499

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid merges 100GB SSD with 1TB HDD for $499

We heard about OCZ's clever crossbreed a few months ago, but couldn't be sure about pricing for this premium model. Turns out, it's significantly less than we'd guessed: $499 for a 100GB SSD and 1TB HDD happily united on a single PCI Express card. Yup, that's still a heck of a lot more than the $300 or so it'd cost to pick up a SandForce-controlled 120GB solid state beauty along with a separate 1TB SATA 6GB/s hard drive.

Callet turns your phone into your wallet

Callet turns your phone into your wallet

In today's day and age when you hear the phrase "phone wallet" the first thing that will probably come to mind is an NFC-enabled phone that can be used to pay your phone bills. Well, Callet takes the phrase to a whole new definition with its recently released smartphone cases. Designed to (literally) replace your wallet, the Callet is a protective case for your iPhone or BlackBerry with an additional pocket on the back for you to store your cash and cards. While effectively increasing the thickness of your phone, the Callet lets you leave your wallet at home which leaves it up to you decide whether or not it is worth the trade-off.

How excited is Samsung about the new Galaxy Note. The company is convinced that the device heralds a whole new space for the industry, something in between the smartphone and the tablet. And what's the space called. The Note, of course. At 5.3 inches, the thing does feel a lot more like a cell phone than a tablet - albeit a really large one.

Sony's Tablet S now up for pre-order in the UK, priced from £399.99

Sony's Tablet S now up for pre-order in the UK, priced from £399.99

Sony's Android-powered Tablet S is going to be available pretty soon. Sony finally decided to officially acknowledge its existence yesterday when it announced that the tablet would be available in September. However, in the UK at least, it's coming a bit sooner than we expected. Dixons has claimed it has an exclusive two-week pre-order window (whatever that means) for Sony's tablet in the UK, and the retailer has therefore (obviously) started taking pre-orders for the device. There are three versions offered at the moment.

The cheapest is a 16 GB Wi-Fi-only option, which can be had for £399.99.

Aston Martin One-77 stars in new episode of NatGeo's Megafactories

The factories were supercars are made can often be as impressive, if not more so, than the vehicles they produce. Unfortunately few of us ever get to see them, remote as they often are from our locales and generally not open to the public. That's where Megafactories comes in. The National Geographic program – broadcast Stateside as Ultimate Factories – regularly gains access to these plants, and the next episode is heading to Gaydon in Warwickshire, England, to take us behind the scenes of the dedicated facility where Aston Martin makes its top of the line model: the One-77.

Lenovo Multimedia Remote Upgraded

Lenovo Multimedia Remote Upgraded

The new Lenovo Multimedia Remote Keyboard (N5902). Over a year ago we cut the cable/dish around here and began using Home Theater PCs, and various extenders and it has worked out much better than I had hoped. My wife and two sons have been delighted with the selection of content available and we're saving almost $125/month by not having DirecTV.
All went smoothly in the transition, building the HTPCs was easy, putting the Rokus, Popcorn Hour , Microsoft XBox360 and Thecus NAS on the network wasn't a problem either. The only real issue we had was finding the right remote keyboard.
