Is this Apple's cheaper iPhone 4?

Is this Apple's cheaper iPhone 4?

See that. That just might be the cheaper iPhone that Apple's rumored to formally unveil on Tuesday. Gizmodo Brazil managed to get a hold of a purported iPhone 4s from within a Brazilian Foxconn factory, and while the hardware itself looks just about identical to the iPhone 4 that exists today, there's a new SKU that's leading to understandable speculation. The N90A model number that popped up has certainly emerged before, but where things really get interesting is the "reprovado" ("disqualified") labeling.

Dragon Dictate for Mac 2.5 Review

The black and white, dead-truth of the matter is, I am a horrible typist. This is not ideal for my day job or writing reviews here at The-Gadgeteer.com. It is my own fault, during high school I did everything I could to get out of typing class. I was in band, shop, PE and even took extra math and science to get out of typing.

Top Gear USA extends second season

Top Gear USA extends second season

. The first season of Top Gear USA was a little rough, and the statistical proof of this came in the form of lukewarm ratings. But instead of dumping the show in favor of more Pawn Stars re-runs, The History Channel decided to give the auto-focused program another chance at success. Good thing, too, as the second season of Top Gear USA was more refined, more entertaining and, we're guessing, it brought in more ad dollars. That's because the show's ratings jumped by 30 percent, with the much-sought 25-54 demographic jumping by 35 percent.
Thanks to those 1.9 million average viewers, History decided to extend season two by eight more episodes.

AT&T asks judge to toss Sprint lawsuit

AT&T asks judge to toss Sprint lawsuit

. AT&T has asked a federal judge to toss a lawsuit brought against it by Sprint, Reuters reported on Friday. Sprint filed its lawsuit on September 6th and said it was fighting “on behalf of consumers and competition.” Sprint also argued that AT&T's planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA is “illegal.” As one might expect, AT&T does not see eye-to-eye with Sprint on those allegations.

Canadian Retailer Leaks Kobo Vox E-Reader

Kobo is attempting to steal the thunder from Amazon and Barnes & Noble when it comes to 7-inch LCD e-reader domination. News about the Kobo Vox has been around since it was filed in the FCC weeks ago, but details about the device has only been sprouting out just now. The Kobo Vox was accidentally(?) leaked on Canadian retailer website Future Shop, where its specs were revealed. The listing has since been removed, but you gotta applaud the quick eyes and copy-paste powers of the netizens. The device features a 7-inch LCD with 1,024 x 600 resolution, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, and an expected battery life of up to six hours.

Samsung Galaxy W gets the FCC once over (again), appears ready for AT&T

In a Samsung Galaxy soon coming your way, are a stable of alphabetically ranked handsets. Among these newly hatched Korean mobile offspring is the 'W' line - meant to imply wireless wonder. Well, wonder about its US bow no more because that handset - previously announced for the British Isles - is getting a double take at the FCC. The time 'round, the Commission's filings reveal GSM / WCDMA 850MHz / 1900MHz bands, making this variant prime for Canada's networks and our own AT&T - at speeds of 14.4Mbps down.

Micro Four Thirds Canon Lens Adapter Allows Aperture Control

Micro Four Thirds Canon Lens Adapter Allows Aperture Control

It's not pretty, but it'll get the job done. One thing I love about Micro Four Thirds cameras is that you can mount all kinds of lenses on them using simple, cheap adapters. In fact, I'm just about to sell my Nikon D700 because I almost never use it, but I'm keeping my lenses to use on a Panasonic GF1.
But until now, Canon users had to without aperture control when using lenses on other bodies. Canon EF mount lenses need power to activate their aperture leaves, and passive adapters simply leave the lenses stuck wide open.

You can always get creative with a bunch of LEGO bricks, but how many of us actually come up with something that is useful and stunning at the same time. LEGO brick engineer PLUM B decided that life's too short to just make simple structures, deciding to take his love for Gears of War to a whole new level with his life-sized Gears of War Lancer Assault Rifle that is made up entirely of what else but LEGO bricks. Heck, it even comes with a clip-fed firing mechanism which won't spit out molten lead, but rather rubberbands, whereas the rather blunt saw blade on the front of the gun will be motorized and ready for action any time when summoned.

Analysts: Kal-El will be Nvidia's golden egg

A report published in Forbes now suggests that the idea for a fifth core could be translating into about $3.5 to $4 billion for Nvidia – in stock gains alone. Based on the idea that a fifth companion core that would run background processes at a very low power consumption value when an Android phone is basically in sleep mode, analysts are making the assumption that Nvidia's stock could climb by about 35 percent to $20 and give the company a market capitalization of more than $12 billion. The report suggests that Kal-El could help Android devices run “better” and therefore attract customers.

Model airplanes could be terrorist weapon in the future

Model airplanes could be terrorist weapon in the future

I guess our human creativity is a double-edged sword – it can be used for great good or great evil, and this time around, model airplanes might be on the ban list in stores (in addition to other kinds of model toys like remote controlled helicopters, I suppose) after a 26-year-old man from a Boston suburb was arrested with charges of plotting to attack the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol being leveled against him. The mode of delivery. No, not the standard issue suicide bomber model, but using remote-controlled model planes that are packed to the brim with explosives.

If you're living in Germany and are rather disappointed that you cannot get hold of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in that part of the world simply because Apple's legal eagles have filed an injunction to the courts to ban the sales of said tablet there, fret not. There are still other alternatives out there (which Apple probably hopes will steer you towards their very own iPad 2), and Vodafone Germany might offer two possible solutions with their very own Vodafone-branded Smart Tab 7 and Smart Tab 10.

Some concepts remain just that – a concept that has not been fleshed out in the form of a prototype, but you can be sure with the latest Tag Heuer chronograph concept, things are different. After all, it is said to be so precise that a blink of the eye might cause you to miss out on its movement – considering it runs on the Mikrotimer Flying 1000′s watch movement that runs at 500Hz. For comparison's sake, other high-end chronos seemingly plod along at 5Hz, so you can tell just what kind of precision level that the Tag Heuer team has been working on.

Verizon's Nexus Prime to Come Devoid of Any Bloatware?

Our good friend P3Droid at MyDroidWorld seems to have gained some trustworthy information regarding the applications coming installed on Verizon's Nexus Prime. He's go the full list and, as you will be able to tell, the only VZW apps you see here are those that pertain to Verizon's network (meaning you won't be seeing anything Verizon-branded on the phone unless you venture into the Manage Applications screen). That's all good news, though as with anything we can't fully trust it until the device is in users' hands. Read on for the full list.

A push-button starter that tells if you're drunk?

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that two companies have joined forces to create a push-to-start button that can automatically sense the driver's blood-alcohol level. Takata, an Auburn Hills-based parts supplier and TruTouch, an Albuquerque-based firm, have received a $2.25 million grant from the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety to help make the creation commercially viable. Currently, the device is about the size of a bread box and uses an infrared sensor to determine the amount of alcohol in a person's system.

[Study] Social media believed to be used by most of today's burglars

While the internet is great for helping you keep in touch with the people you care about, it's also a good way for strangers to find out everything about you. One thing people seem to ignore nowadays is the privacy settings on their social networks - where they are, where they live, where they hang out - all their location data is visible for everyone to see. Most of the time it doesn't mean a thing, but if you happen to be the unfortunate target of a burglar, it becomes a problem. Friedland, a UK home security company recently performed a survey on 50 ex-burglars and found some interesting results.

This little soldier carries the big responsibility of extending HTC's dominance to the budget end of the Android spectrum, and it must achieve this mission with only a bare minimum of weaponry: a 3.2-inch HVGA (480 x 320) capacitive display, 600MHz processor, 3MP camera and 512MB of expandable memory. Disney invades Japan with more Android-powered phones

The Japanese certainly have a soft spot for Mickey Mouse and gang, which is why Disney decided the market is ready for yet a slew of new Android-powered smartphones that bear the Disney name. First of all, the DM010SH handset (I can never get used to the model name and numbers) that will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, alongside 512MB RAM, 2GB ROM, a 4″ qHD resolution display that is said to be “3D-capable”, an 8-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity keeping it company.

Amazon's new tablet is called Kindle Fire, cost only $199!

Rumors of an Amazon tablet have been rife for months and months. Last I recalled, it started at the end of last year out of nowhere. This morning, Amazon's Jeff Bezos confirmed that yes, the device does exist, and it will be going on sale November 15, and he just showed to the world Amazon's very first attempt at the tablet world at their press conference, the 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet. Very much a member of the Kindle family (Kindle leads to Fire, get it?), the Fire looks a lot like the Kindle Touch that was launched together earlier on this morning. However, there are some notable differences.
