Revolutionary Brings S-Off and Recovery to the HTC Sensation, EVO 3D, and More

Thanks to the folks behind Unrevoked and AlphaRev the HTC Sensation and EVO 3D now have permanent S-Off and NAND write access, a feat some felt might never be accomplished due to a locked bootloader. The tool called Revolutionary will do the same for most modern HTC handsets including the Desire, Desire S, Incredible S (and Droid Incredible 2), and Flyer tablet. Support is in the works for the HTC Thunderbolt.

Motorized Suzuki couch car looks comfortable but not practical

Motorized Suzuki couch car looks comfortable but not practical

It never ceases to amaze how many different kinds of innovations companies can come up with that help to make life so much more comfortable and convenient, although we're thinking that the Suzuki motorized couch definitely takes the cake. The EV Couch Car also happens to be Suzuki's very first EV, so I guess we should be giving them points for novelty and effort. The EV Couch Car runs on a 48-volt Club Car motor that juices up on eight, 6W deep cycle batts hidden underneath the rather ugly upholstery of the 80-inch x 36.5-inch sofa that is built atop a chassis with a wheelbase of around 25 inches.

FaceTime coming to Verizon's 3G network

According to the latest reports online, Verizon users might soon be able to make FaceTime calls over 3G 9to5Mac.com's sources have claimed that the Verizon has multiple engineers testing FaceTime over 3G in many regions that have heavy iPhone usage. Witnesses who have seen 3G FaceTime in action on Verizon's network said that the quality looks fairly good - apparently the carrier has been optimizing its network to give a good FaceTime video call experience. However, according to the sources as well, there is some bad news: the 3G FaceTime feature might be limited to users with tiered 3G plans.

Vodafone Blue 555: a new dedicated Facebook feature phone

Vodafone Blue 555: a new dedicated Facebook feature phone

Vodafone has just launched a new phone in the UK and it's not the typical phone we've come to expect. This time it's a feature phone that features heavy Facebook integration - and by heavy we mean heavy. On the surface it looks a lot like the HTC ChaCha - a candy bar shaped phone that features a dedicated Facebook button. Except in this phone, known as the Blue 555, the dedicated Facebook button isn't sticking out like a sore thumb on the device.
The phone doesn't run Android, but a proprietary operating system that has Facebook built into everything.

Android Sound Box's eyes look out of place

Android Sound Box's eyes look out of place

Ever watched the Japanese superhero series Ultraman. Well, apart from the iconic signature finishing moves that the particular Ultraman uses to save Japan from intergalactic monstrosities, their bug eyes are another endearing facial feature. Well, the same can be said of this Android Sound Box, making your allegiance clear to everyone else in the office where mobile operating systems are concerned. Mom always said not to judge a book by its cover, so I will let those slanted bug eyes not, er, bug me, as I take you through the list of features after the jump.

HTC Wildfire S shipped off to the FCC

HTC Wildfire S shipped off to the FCC

Yes, we know that T-Mobile will be carrying the HTC Wildfire S, but the smartphone will never arrive to the market by August 3rd if it did not pick up approval from the FCC. Good thing that the particular event has already happened, as new FCC documents point towards the CDMA version of the handset to arrive Stateside across a spectrum of carriers including Verizon Wireless, US Cellular, Virgin Mobile or MetroPCS. Make no mistake about it, just like its predecessor, the HTC Wildfire S that you see here will remain in the budget category, offering a first taste of Android to the masses for those who are still stuck with a feature phone.

AT&T's Galaxy S II Will Have Slide-Out QWERTY, Pictures Inside

Yesterday when a render of an unknown Samsung handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard surfaced, we raised the question as to whether or not it could be AT&T's variant of the Galaxy S II. Turns out, that is exactly what the device will be. Images of the handset have surfaced clearly showing the SGH-I927 model number associated with the Galaxy S II. This time around it appears as though Samsung has managed to slim up the handset considerably compared to last year's Epic 4G on Sprint (is it also safe to assume Sprint won't receive a keyboard-laden version of the Galaxy series this time?).

Canon X Mark I Mouse does more than move your pointer around

Canon X Mark I Mouse does more than move your pointer around

The humble mouse might have come a long way in terms of design, but has it actually evolved all that much where functionality is concerned. Sure, you have wireless models and the trackball has gone the way of the dodo, but basically, the function is still the same. Some might argue that you don't go around reinventing the wheel, and the mouse might just be the “wheel” of peripherals, but what if Canon took your regular mouse and introduced an integrated calculator. This is exactly what Canon did with the X Mark I Mouse, having announced it for a US release.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.3 Gingerbread update may be out this week

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.3 Gingerbread update may be out this week

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 may be out as early as sometime this week. The Xperia X10 launched running Android 1.6 in what was a world filled wit 2.x devices even back then. Sony Ericsson tried to subsequently forget all about the X10, but a couple of consumer backlashes later, the company changed its mind and said it would even update the X10 to Gingerbread. When? This summer. That was the first word. Then that got changed into ‘this August'. And now it looks like Sony Ericsson may be set to deliver the update a bit early.

Nokia shows off RSS, email and notes app of the N9

Those of you pining to get your hands on a Nokia MeeGo device will have to wait until the N9 launches (supposedly in August) or sign up for the developer program in order to get the N950. But since most of us aren't developers (if not we would've gotten the N950 by now) we'll just have to resort to gobbling up whatever tidbits we can find of the phone online. Nokia has been doing a pretty good job of showcasing the N9′s features on its official blog, and today we get a detailed walkthrough of three useful apps that will be found on the phone - Mail, Notes and Feeds.

Apple releases iOS 4.3.5, will this be the last for the yondaime?

Less than ten days after iOS 4.3.4 parachuted in to fix that nasty PDF exploit, Apple's gone and dropped another iOS update. So what'll Cupertino's latest fix today. Build 8L1 — or 8E600 on 4.2.10 if you're using the CDMA version — apparently nixes a vulnerability with “certificate validation,” or you know, Apple's just really fond of keeping all you hackers on your toes. Either way, it's time to fire up iTunes. And oh by the way, this 4.3.5 can still be jailbroken using redSnow, tethered of course.

Samsung Galaxy 3D in the works?

Samsung might have 3D-enabled TVs in their range for quite some time already, but what about the smartphone market. Rumors are flying around that the South Korean consumer electronics giant might just have something interesting up its sleeves – the Samsung Galaxy 3D. Makes sense to call it that anyways considering how convenient and straight to the point such a naming convention would work.
