TVee One Speaker Base review

TVee One Speaker Base review

One thing that's almost certain is that the quality of the sound from flat screen TV speakers rarely equals the quality of the picture.  It's understandable, considering the size and location of the speakers.  You can of course invest in a surround-sound system and wire up your TV viewing room, or there is the option of the sound bar.  Boston Acoustics has taken a different approach with their TVee One Speaker Base.  Setting it up was a snap and it sounds good too.The acoustic base works for TVs up to 60 lbs and with base dimensions not greater than 21.5″ X 13″.

Been waiting for some really good deals on Nexus devices. eBay has you covered, at least in the case of the 16GB Nexus 7 2013, offering this amazing little tablet for just $189, with free shipping. Considering buying from Google only gets you a $25 Play Store card, I think it's pretty clear which of the two is a better deal.

Nokia Guru Could Be The BH-121 Touch

Nokia Guru Could Be The BH-121 Touch

Just last month, we did bring you word of a possible new peripheral from Microsoft-owned Nokia, which is the Nokia Guru, where there was a leaked image that accompanied it. That leaked image (courtesy of @evleaks) arrived in a shade of cyan blue, where it has been nicknamed Guru for one reason or another. Heck, it might just be known as the BH-121 Touch, as the ‘Touch' bit would stand for the integrated NFC compatibility.

DIY Cellphone Is Back Again

DIY Cellphone Is Back Again

It was last year when we brought you David Mellis' DIY Cellphone, and it seems that he has been up to more tinkering this time around with yet another DIY cellphone which, from the name itself, you know you are able to make one up with your two hands if you have the necessary amount of time and technical know how. The DIY cellphone is capable of making and receiving phone calls and text messages, in addition to storing names and their corresponding numbers. Oh yeah, did we mention that it can also tell the time. Sounds pretty much like a standard issue featurephone from Nokia of yore, no.

Seattle Restaurant Ejects Patron For Wearing Google Glass

Google Glass is relatively new technology and has slowly started to make its way into the mainstream through early adoption by developers as part of Google's Explorer program. That being said society has yet to adjust itself to the notion that one day Glass could become as commonplace as smartphones or tablets, and lately it seems that one particular restaurant in Seattle, the Lost Lake Café & Lounge, decided to give a patron by the name of Nick Starr who wore Google Glass in the establishment, an ultimatum in which he could remove his Glass or leave the restaurant.

Samsung's Marketing Budget Stands At $14 Billion

Samsung's Marketing Budget Stands At $14 Billion

The advertising industry certainly has its fair share of ups and downs, but one thing's for sure – there is plenty of money to be made in this particular industry. From what we know, Samsung is tipped to spend a whopping $14 billion in 2013 alone when it comes to advertising and promoting its consumer electronics to the masses. That would make Samsung be on top of a list that they most probably would not want to, that is, having the largest percentage of revenue compared to any of the other top 20 companies (by revenue) when it comes to splurging on advertising.

Google has recently properly documented the chrome.wallpaper API, so Googler François Beaufort couldn't leave his arms crossed. He has created a simple, but nifty app named Wallpapers+. It allows the user to search and set wallpapers from Google+. Google+ is full of photographers, which makes this a very helptful tool for finding awesome wallpapers. The app is simple, all you have to do is type in search keywords and it will fetch related images. Whether it be from a person's account or a general topic.

It looks ver neat and I hope this is not an experiment Beaufort just used to test the new API.

Carlos Tavares is a man of ambition. As well he should be, because you don't get to the top ranks of a major industrial group without it. But as chief operating officer of Renault, there was only so far he could go in the shadow of his boss Carlos Ghosn. So with an eye toward running a major automaker, Tavares left Renault a couple of months ago, expressing his desire to run an automaker like Ford or GM. Now Tavares has gotten what he wanted, but he won't have to move to Detroit to get it.

When Motorola first announced the Moto X, one of the coolest customizable options we saw was how customers could potentially choose a wooden backplate for the handset, which is definitely different and more unique from your typical color options. Unfortunately until today, no word on when the wooden backplate option will make its way into the Moto Maker site, but last we heard it was tipped for a Q4 2013 release. Well  the good news is that if you were looking forward to a wooden-backed Moto X, a tweet by reporter for Reuters has revealed that the wooden option will be coming in time for holiday shoppers.

Next-gen Mazda2 designed for 'predominantly feminine' appeal

Next-gen Mazda2 designed for 'predominantly feminine' appeal

We can't ever think of a time we've heard anyone accuse the current Mazda2 of being too edgy, which makes reports of a softer design for the next-gen model a little surprising. Autocar reports that when the new 2 debuts next fall, it will have a "softer, more feminine appeal" than the current design. This description lends a little more credibility to the Japanese magazine image we saw of the car back in July. Aside from Mazda's Kodo-inspired signature face, that picture did reveal softer lines, especially along the side of the car.

New York cops to use unmarked SUVs to catch texting drivers

Texting while driving is dangerous, and to ensure the safety of its motorists, New York has made it a primary offense for a driver to use a cell phone at all. The problem with a ban on texting while driving, though, is that it can be hard for police to enforce the law since most people text with the phone down by their lap. To combat this, The New York Times says that the New York State Police just received 32 unmarked SUVs so its officers can look down into cars to see what drivers are up to. Aside from the fact that these SUVs are grey in color, the article did not say what type of vehicle is being used.

We recently learned the PlayStation 4 only costs a total of $381 to build, which means its current selling price of $399 allows Sony to rake in just $18 per console that's sold. Now that the Xbox One is out in the wild, IHS has once again estimated what it costs to build Microsoft's next-generation console, and it looks like the company isn't making much money with the sale of each console either. IHS believes the combined parts and manufacturing of everything that comes within a retail box of the Xbox One, which includes the console, the Xbox One Kinect and the Xbox One controller, costs a total of $471.

I don't particularly use the account, and I don't even remember the last time I needed to sign in. But whenever I think of it, there's a bit of me that is worried for a simple reason: I don't keep the account connected on my phone. The reason for that is I haven't been a fan of any of the E-mail apps out there.

We obsessively covered the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

To reiterate what Editor-in-Chief Neff said in our LA Auto Show wrap-up from earlier today, let's never do this whole two-major-shows-in-one-week thing ever again. Oh sure, we handled it, doing our whole obsessively kicking butt thing on a global scale. But here we are, Friday evening, and we're spent. What proved interesting to see this week was just how different the Tokyo Motor Show was from its LA counterpart. In California, we were treated to a host of new products from domestic automakers, largely with a focus on production intent designs.
