AT&T, T-Mobile to postpone court proceedings for a month

The AT&T and T-Mobile merger deal isn't looking so good. Some analysts have even gone as far as claiming that the deal is on its death bed, although given the huge obstacles and the amount of opposition that both AT&T and T-Mobile had to face, we can't help but agree to a certain extent, but it seems that AT&T is now trying to salvage what's left of the deal by requesting the judge to delay the court battle against the Department of Justice by a month.

O2 UK lets you rent the iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4S is a desirable phone without doubt, but unfortunately such desirability comes with a price, a price that is unfortunately out of the reach for some. However if you live in the UK and you want to get the iPhone 4S but can't afford it outright, UK carrier O2 has a plan that will allow you to rent an iPhone 4S for a year. The plan is called O2 Lease and basically it will cost subscribers £55 a month. This includes a 16GB iPhone 4S, 750 minutes worth of talk time, 500MB of data, unlimited texting and O2's mobile insurance.

NPD on US Smartphone Numbers for 2011: Android in the Lead, iOS Trailing and Everyone Else a Non-Factor [Stuff We've Heard Before]

NPD Group have released their smartphone OS market share numbers for the United States for the period of January-October 2011 so far. Up to this point, Android commands 53% of the US market share, a considerable lead over Apple's iOS at 29% and RIM's Blackberry OS owns 10%. Windows Mobile/Windows Phone 7, Symbian and WebOS are still very much irrelevant, though Microsoft is making decent progress. The trend from quarter to quarter has looked exactly like this so this comes as no surprise. And there is no reason to believe that the trend won't continue heading into 2012.

Coby to Reveal Five New Ice Cream Sandwich Tablets at CES

Personal electronics manufacturer Coby have announced that they will have a big showing at CES. We're set to get five different Ice Cream Sandwich tablets in the 7-10 inch range. A 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor sit inside these devices, an unusual choice for Android tablets these days. The only Cortex A8-based processors we've seen inside Honeycomb-capable models are the 1.5GHz Snapdragon processors inside HTC Flyer and its variants. It'll be interesting to see what processor choice Coby has gone with and how Ice Cream Sandwich will perform on it. The tablets will also have 1GB of RAM inside but no other information is know at this time.

Apple reportedly wants to control your wireless universe

Apple is purportedly readying a new certification chip for accessory makers that will allow wireless access and connectivity to that pile of iOS devices you're hoarding. Announced during an accessory manufacturer's conference in China, the new chip would allow connections across AirPlay, Bluetooth and WiFi. The Cupertino crew hope that this will encourage even more iOS-friendly add-ons and docks to market.

Samsung said on Sunday its annual mobile handset sales this year had exceeded 300 million units for the first time in the company's history. The world's second largest handset maker by volume said in a statement it had broken its sales record by the end of last month. Handset sales in 2010 were about 280 million.
