Pre-orders for Microsoft Surface with Windows RT start shipping

If you're one of the many people who pre-ordered Microsoft's Surface with Windows RT, you could be getting your tablet just in time for its official October 26th ship date - and perhaps even before then. According to a few reader tips and a confirmation email sent to WP Central, those tablets are indeed in the shipping stages and could arrive as early as next week depending on your selected delivery method. While there have been reports of delays in UK and Canada, those were apparently incorrect, and we have no reason to believe the US shipments won't be on time.

Hyundai shows SEMA-bound Veloster by Ark Performance

Want your car to reflect as well as enable your active lifestyle. Then you may want to check out the ARK Performance "Alpine" concept coming to this year's SEMA show. Ark began with standard 201-horsepower Hyundai Veloster Turbo and, using various bits from the Ark catalog, ramped power up to 232 horses with a torque boost to 240 pound-feet. The extra oomph comes from an ARK exhaust, test pipe and turbo up-pipes, a K&N intake, Nitrous Express Proton kit, Ark oil cooler and a Koyo radiator.

Beneath the coupe is an Ark coilover system, big brake kit and strut bar.

ARM-powered Chromebook lands at Play store for $249

Samsung's brand new ARM A15-based Chromebook is now available direct from Google at the Play store. The $249 WiFi only laptop was already available to pre-order through Amazon, but now you can go straight to the source, and Mountain View promises to have one of the light-weight machines in your hands within 3-5 business days. If you're more interested in the 3G-equipped version of the 11.6-incher, you'll still have to take your business to Amazon for now. Though, there's still no word on when the $329 laptop will be released.

It's over. Samsung has announced that it will no longer supply LCD panels to Apple beginning next year. A senior Samsung official, who declined to be identified, told The Korea Times that it was due to “insufficient margins” after Apple updated its supply pricing strategy.

The Fujitsu Floral Kiss ultrabook comes with pre-installed Windows 8 apps like a digital scrapbook for collecting website bookmarks, a diary and a daily horoscope checker. Available in “feminine pink” and “luxury brown”, the laptop features an Intel Core i5 processor and a 500GB hard disk drive. The Fujitsu Floral Kiss also provides access to My Cloud, Fujitsu's proprietary personal cloud service. No word on pricing at this time.

Small Jeep and Fiat SUVs to be built in Italy

In a bid to fill some of its empty Italian production capacity, Fiat plans to build a pair of small SUVs at its plant in Melfi starting in 2014, according to Automotive News Europe. With most Chrysler plants running at or near full capacity, the Melfi facility will probably build the new Fiat and Jeep SUVs for export to North America. The final decision could come as soon as this weekend. The new small Jeep is expected to replace the Patriot and/or Compass, which are both produced in Chrysler's Belvidere, Illinois plant.

Quick hands up please, how many Gadgeteer readers smoke.  Another quick poll, how many have tried to give up.  I know I have, multiple times.  I've tried Nicotine Replacement Treatment (NRT) in the form of gum, hypnotism, cold turkey (not smoking, not the meat ) and Zyban.
