We do know that both the new Sony Xperia S and Xperia ion will ship with NFC (Near Field Communication) capability, where select countries employ this as a mode of paymen, allowing you to swipe your handset in exchange of a drink. Of course, there are other uses than just to make financial transactions, and this is where Sony's Xperia SmartTags come in. These simple NFC tags are more or less modern cue cards, where they are read by the smartphone before being led to perform a particular task.
